Briggleby

Briggleby...once a hovel for the poor. Now a bustling city that acts as a way point for all those wishing to break a long, exhausting journey across the Bex Sea.
- Trent Underwood, Historian and Professor.   Briggleby is the center of trade on Antora Falls. Being the stop off for many ships, hundreds of traders have set up shop here as a way to earn money, leading to a whole district being built. Hundreds of houses are piled up on top of each other to house the members of the community that have been there since the beginning.   The houses on the edge of the city are made of wood that is rotting in places with scaffolding to support some of the more disheveled houses. Closer to the port, the houses are spacious and homely as they were erected closer to the time that the airships and traders started to appear.

Government

The city is led by the Governor. They are advised by a Council that helps to keep the Governor on the straight and narrow, although the Governor has the final say on everything they discuss.   Every five years, the city residents vote to either keep in the current Governor or have a new person voted in.

Defences

The first major defense is the high walls that protect the main city. These walls have been there since before anyone could remember and since the resurgence of Briggleby's economy, more money had been put into restoring it and repairing it. The walls don't protect the port, however, so the Governor paid to have cannons installed to protect the airship port from attack.

Industry & Trade

The main source of income for Briggleby is the trading district. This is the first stop off that many tourists make to gain souvenirs. The next is a rare resource that can only be found on Antora falls. It is an ore that lots of blacksmiths want. It is dug out by the tonne and sold to the known world and many traders fight over the chance to transport it.

Infrastructure

There are several notable accomplishments that Briggleby has achieved including: a sewer system and electricity to most of the homes. However, the newest addition to the accomplishments is having the ability to pump water from the local lake to most of the homes. Now only the oldest houses have to draw water from a well.   The next big project that Briggleby is working on is a communication system for the miners that spend almost all day, everyday excavating the ores.

Architecture

The oldest buildings are made up of wood and iron with a window being just a hole in the wall. To try and make these homes homely, the inhabitants use spare paint from the traders to paint the outside of the houses. Many of the homes here don't have doors so instead have heavy linen draped over the doors to stop the drafts during the winter.   The newest buildings are constructed with imported stone and actual glass in the windows. Some of the houses have a garden backing the house. The houses are painted in garish colours and have iron fences out at the front of them.

Geography

Briggleby rests in the very center of Antora Falls in a small natural depression that is the remnants of a lake. There are look out points at almost every point on the compass that show off the best views that Antora Falls has to offer.
