Most bards use at least one instrument regularly in their performances, and many travel with two or more, especially if their second instrument is small and easy to carry.

Materials

Some bards make their own instruments, and require the raw materials to do so: typically wood, metal, and catgut.

Workplace

Bards are wanderers by nature, although some can have more stationary employment. All but the luckiest quickly learn to perform anywhere there is space to set down their instrument case, although they will undoubtedly have strong opinions on the acoustics of any building in which they perform.

Legality

Very few places outright outlaw the presence of bards, with the exception of Wallavia. In many places, however, bards are required to have a guild license to perform in public areas.
