Anchorton

Dain watched in horror as the flames consumed the temple, the place he once though of as a safe place to rest. Fire jumped up the walls and columns like an infestation, writhing into an emerald hue as it rose into the night. He had never thought that someone would disrupt a place so sacred and welcoming. Inside, he saw a glint of two figures. One was desperately trying to pull the other away. He wanted to rush and aid them, but he knew that their fates were already sealed. In the last moments of the building, homes adjacent to it toppling into the street, he could only think of who would commit a crime such as this. Then it dawned on him: the mermen. The fires burned as heated as his rage for the ones who would desecrate this. Trudging off into the night, he only had one thought, one of hatred.

Demographics

Dominant
Humans can be found nearly everywhere on the island, and make up the majority of the political representation.
Minority
Halflings, dwarves, and elves are all minority races in Anchorton, with most people eyeing them suspiciously, but not outwardly aggressive towards them.
Enclaves
Goblins have a specific district in the city where they live, called the Wineheath because it is the main source of the city's alcoholic beverages. The merfolk district, called the Old Well, is the broken down, ancient part of the city, where most merfolk have been banished, mostly due to superstitions.

Government

Baron Cenhelm is the primary authority for Anchorton, who has 3 ambassadors under him that deal with more specific departments of the city. He rules, as far as the populous is concerned, fair and just, and is a benevolent and respected baron. The only people above him are Lady Kadana and her generals.
The 3 main ambassadors that answer and advise Baron Cenhelm are
  • Silvio Thorngage (Administrator of Commerce)
  • General Ratomir (Administrator of Defense)
  • Sir Rothenel (Administrator of Racial Relations)

Industry & Trade

The primary way that the city stays afloat economically is trough its alliances with many trade guilds, alliances kept by Silvio Thorngage. The most notable ally they have is that of the Crownsilver Company, who provides them with many commodity goods such as pearls, gold, and jewelry.

Infrastructure

Outside the main city walls is a small shanty town that is mainly comprised of minority species and people who aren't wealthy enough to afford real estate in the main city.
A river that runs through the city separates the wealthy district from the commoners. The high district, while not typically occupied by commoners for too long, is the main method to get to the outer district. 5 highly guarded bridges cross the river, and most have tolls to pass over.

Guilds and Factions

Outside of the main walls of Ancorton lie dense wilderness that is home to 4 enclaves that are each made up of a minority races. These are:
  • The Old Well: The original home of the merfolk on the island. Its made on the side of a cliff, and most homes are made partially submerged in the water.
  • The Wineheath: The home of the goblins, this small collection of campsites produces the towns alcoholic beverages.
  • The Gray Chapel: An old and church to a forgotten god, this area is now home to a collection of tabaxi who specialize in weaponry and armor.
  • Northwharf: An old port, elves now gather here and have quite a few skilled warriors.
The most notable new organization is a coalition of merfolk, elves, and tabaxi: the Roughbrook Alliance. They are located on Birmingcastle islet, a small island just outside of the city walls. They are rumored to control powerful beasts capable of devastating sieges. With the tabaxi's weapons and armor and the elves' fighters, the alliance has been proving a nuisance, especially to Sir Rothenel, administrator of racial relations.
