Celestial New Year

Celebrated on the longest, darkest night of the year (35 Dark Moon), Celestial New Year is a major celebration in Coromare. While technically a Celestialist festival, the celebrations and practices are observed by most residents of Coromare, regardless of religious belief.

Observance

Observers stay awake all night long to await the first sunrise of the new year. Overnight, numerous candles and lanterns are lit to represent the stars overhead and to banish the darkness. Decorations and snacks are typically shaped like stars or favorite constellations. Lanterns are set adrift on the River Cando, to invite the return of the sun.   In the morning, a great feast is held. Celestialists are encouraged to invited "stars without constellations" (the less fortunate, those without families) to join them at their tables.
