Nyiri

The largest port outside of Kator Island , Nyiri is the port city most frequented by foreign traders and workers. As such, it is the main point of connection between Elethica and most of the other continents.

Demographics

The dark-skinned Verdians are less of a majority in this city than others, due to its status as Verden's largest port. Katoran traders are abundant, as well as traders and visitors from foreign lands. Merchants line major roads peddling their wares to travelers fresh off their ships.

Government

Nyini, as with all of Verden's major cities, is run by officials appointed by the Ruling Council . The city is headed by a port-master who is responsible for keeping track of who is traveling in and out of the city, particularly by ship. Below them is the trade-master (keeps track of imports and exports, as well as taxes), as well as other officials.

Industry & Trade

Most permanent residents of Nyini are merchants of some sort or another. Glass, fine jewelry, and linen textiles are the main exports from the city itself. Other exports—such as wood, arms and armor, and stone—are goods and materials funneled from the other three countries to be sold to foreign traders.
Goods imported through Nyini include animals (usually cows or horses), spices, and coffee; to be sold and traded around Elethica.

Infrastructure

There are two shipyards, one for foreign ships and one for domestic ships. Foreign ships are from any one of the other continents (including Verden ships returning home) and are generally ordered to quarantine for a set period of time and are subjugated to stricter searches and guidelines. Domestic ships are from one of the other three countries in Elethica and do not need to quarantine, although they are still subjugated to (less strict) searches.

History

Nyini was the landing point and the first established settlement of the Verden Nation. It started off as a city-state before being officially integrated into Verden a few centuries later. It has been the target of sea raids over the centuries.

Architecture

Buildings are typically made of sandstone, with more important buildings made of imported stone. Every building features glass windows, with more affluent buildings using stained glass. Roads and alleys are generally made of compacted sand, while major thoroughfares are paved with imported stone.

Geography

Nyini is located in a medium-sized bay on the south-east coast of the Verden Peninsula. It is situated on the mouth of the Matham, the main thoroughfare into the peninsula.
