Dead Mountains

The Dead Mountains got their name by their infamous history. The mountain range is located in the southern part of the eastern continent Coria Viridis in the Kingdom of Izcaritlanco. They were never seen in their full glory as the peaks are always hidden under a thick layer of a cloud. Even on beautiful sunny days, clouds are there like a hat.   The height of the mountains is unknown and massive is still unexplored. The access for research teams and daredevils trying to climb the peaks is forbidden after many unsuccessful attempts and many lost groups of adventurers undertaking the challenge.   The first official scientific attempt to climb, explore and measure the mountains started on 10/08/1579 AMD and ended on 30/11/1579 AMD with the return of one person from a research team of 30 people. The only scientist to return was Amadalia Putliclan, an Aracocra half of Tecatlcolot blood from her father's side. The young scientist has never returned to full mental health and has never again used her wings. The trauma she suffered was never healed. Until the end of her life (she died in 1593) she did not reveal what really happened in the mountains. Historians speculate that her memories were magically altered, and even if she wanted to tell her story she was unable to do it.   After further unsuccessful attempts and many deaths, access to the mountains has been strictly forbidden under the threat of imprisonment.   At the foot of the mountains, there are stationed units guarding that nobody unauthorized tries to enter the High Mountains.   At the foot of the mountains, there are also many dwarven mines. The royal decree does not mention digging under the mountains or in their interior, which was cleverly used as a loophole by a certain Zoltan Chivary, a Dwarf who was the first to open a diamond mine near Chalcopilac in the Kingdom of Izcaritlanco. Soon afterward his footsteps were followed by others. The mines extract all kinds of ores and gemstones depending on the area. The northern slopes of the Dead Mountains are rich in coal and iron and the southern slopes are in gemstones. The Dead Mountains are the largest natural source of gold in Coria Viridis. And the only source of Obsidian stone.   There are many legends about the Dead Mountains. There is one about the Mother of all Dragons living in the mountains and guarding the treasure of gold and stones which with time turned into stone - mountains itself. Other legends speak of a hidden civilization and the Golden City of El Dorado in the center of the Dead Mountains.
