The invention of new sciences like the printing press, the airship, and more complex looms, along with the formation of The Empire, began "The Current Era" 480 years ago. 290 years after the taming of the Black Ocian and settlement of Continova, The Empire has diffused accross all the known world but Continova has become the hub of all new culture.   Everything on Continova is "new" the fashion, the cities, the technology, all citizens are entitled to basic education until the age of 10, most city states have the right to govern their lands semi indipendantly, resulting in contrasting laws and standards from place to place.   Uneasy treaties with the primitive gnomes, natives of the continent, result in small wars and standoffs all across the countryside as more land is cultivated and industrialised.   The Church Is one with The Empire, technically two distinct entities have shared common rulership for hundreds of years.
