Continent of Shiga and the Island of Nore

Created by

For just over five centuries now the continent of Shiga has been dominated by the rule of an Imperial Family. United by Inashu the 1st, the continent is home to a diverse kind of people all living in their own domains. Politically the land is ruled by the Imperial family with military power shared with the Shogun's family, a sort of duo leadership that keeps the land tied together and for the most part, safe. The Island of Nore to the northeast of the continent was the last bit of land to be brought under the Imperial crown.   The culture and feel of the Imperial lands bears a stark resemblance to what we'd call Oriental, as gross as that term might be. Emulating the culture of mainland China and Japan respectfully, this world is a look at those cultures through a fantasy lens. A contemporary time for us would be anywhere between the 1200's and the 1600's, just before the advent of real gunpowder technology.   Each province and domain is led by their own family who act as the Emperor's governor in each area. More often than not it is a dynastic rule held by these provinces, but in a few cases the provinces hold onto their own cultures before the Empire came to decide their own leaders.   The Empire is not an overtly dominating force on Shiga, founded to stop the warfare and bloodshed of constantly family grudges and destruction. But many could claim with some merit that the decadence of the Imperial family and the continued stranglehold of military strength held by the Shogun's family isn't true leadership or freedom respectfully.   In the current time, the emperor just passed away, leaving his only grandson, a boy of only 12 years, Inashu the 5th, to rise to the throne. Will stability last under this child emperor, or will things crumble as new ideas emerge or evil forces look to break the peace the people have lived under for so long?
