Contact Horizon Earth

Humanity in 2317 has amazingly advanced technology, but they are by no means doing well as a species. Pollution, rising sea levels, and overpopulation have made food production unsustainable, and as a result, humanity has outsourced most agriculture to three local exoplanets (known as agroplanets): Proxima Centauri b, Wolf 1061c, and Luyten b.   Humanity first settled beyond its own planet in the year 2094, when unmanned vessels, sent by NASA, first reached Proxima Centauri b. Humans themselves first arrived on the planet in 2104. Luyten b was then settled in 2159, through a partnership between NASA, ROSCOSMOS, and JAXA. Wolf 1061c was finally populated in 2207, through the work of the previous three agencies as well as CNSA and ESA.   Unfortunately, throughout this entire process, tensions were growing on Earth. By failing to act on climate change in the 20th and 21st centuries, human activity reached an unsustainable level and could not be effectively counteracted by the time public opinion turned towards stopping climate change. Negotiations to provide electrical power and sustenance were ineffective. Conflicts eventually began to break out in the early 23rd century, leading to a full scale war between many nations known as the Climate Wars. The Geneva Convention of 2226 was finally effective in bringing nations together to find a solution, and the Exoplanet Production Organization was founded.
