The Mists

The Mists are what prevents mundane people from seeing or at least comprehending/understanding the supernatural. It will hide some places completely, other people/places/things it will change how they are perceived to mundane people to seem more rational. There are limits to what the Mists can do however and it will not protect everything. Fot example Morlocks are people who are so different that the Mists either does not protect them or makes them appear horribly disfigured.
In addition, recently the Mists are slowly shrinking/weakening and nobody know the reason why. Things that used to be protected by the Mists are getting uncovered.

Magic and weird is a thing that the normal world rejects, some amount of that rejection allows weird things to just happen and people will either not see, pretend not to see, or make up a 'rational' explanation for it.
