Sovereign Satyl

Before you read any further, you should know this scroll was issued by Saint Saro Seij in the Year 441 of the Post Banishment to compile to His Blooded studies for future use and reference. Although it may not be long, it as requested only recounts the most important and worthy knowledge. After several weeks of physical study on several voluntary and involuntary samples sovereign sample and spending a near lifetime within and nearby sovereign societies I, Heiron Delik of Teifel, a proud yuatli, come to finalize and publish this following text in the name of His Holiness and The Six.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Sovereign satyl, being the original satyl, are the standard for of their kindred. Having all the required Old Blooded traits and pedigrees. Notable among the satyl however, are their multi-jointed legs, similar to that of beasts of the field in both anatomical terms and appearance. Sovereign in particular are prone to have deer-like antlered crowns and legs.

Genetics and Reproduction

It is a well known facet of life that the satyl are not hindered in the same way other Blooded are, such as the mothers of Dragonborn and some Underlings are. A satyl's antlers only develop after birth, naturally, in the toddler years and grow from there. However, the sovereign, unlike other satyl, presents a unique challenge to their own kindred. A female soverign can only birth one male and one female in their entire lifetime. To clarify on this process, if a sovereign should bear a daughter, its next bearing, if it has one, will be a son. This works in the reverse as well. As Eternal Luna tells us, this is to keep the soverign blood pure and noble. Because of this, each soverign birth and and death is an extremely special event, especially to others of their kind.

Growth Rate & Stages

It is well known that the sovereign, if not prematurely killed, can live hundreds of years. At the time of this writing, it is unsure how long one can live naturally before succumbing to old age if at all possible. The sovereign's life is similar to that of other satyl early on, until their seventeenth year, in which their physical aging slows down rapidly, of what may be a single year in their flesh may be four or five in most other of the Bloods.

Additional Information

Geographic Origin and Distribution

The birthplace of the satyl, the Sun Basin, has been kind to their kind, especially the sovereign. Though sovereigns can be found outside this area, most reside within the countries, especially the Temple, within it. It is rare for a sovereign to leave the relative safety of this place, especially without provocation such as a political or survival based set of reasons.

Average Intelligence

It is a well documented fact that the uncanny life of a sovereign allows them to know things most other Bloods cannot, simply due to their sheer age. Because of this, the average sovereign is a walking trove of knowledge and history, that is, should they try to remember these things.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

As all satyl know, their sight in the night time darkness does not hinder them. Though not always comfortable, it is well established that His Holiness himself prefers darker rooms, although this cannot be said for all of the sovereign or even other satyl kind. Though other Bloods can see in lesser light as well, it should be known that I, Heiron Denfish, have discovered that sovereigns do indeed have the best night sight of all the Bloods, even compared against Horde kind.

Civilization and Culture

Major Organizations

All satyl, especially sovereign, are in natural affiliation with the Temple. Sovereign in particular are in conjunction with this the Six because of the Temples reliance on sovereigns coexistence and the sovereign's reliance on Temple protection, training and aids. As all Saints are, as Luna wills it, sovereigns, it is within their advantage that they remain close to the Temple. In return for the assured survival of their kind and the supplantation of future Saints, the Temple aids in a special teaching that all sovereigns within the Sun Basin are required to undergo. This teaching is known as the Kindling, which does several things, including showing satyl children how to harvest their innate magical and physical prowess.

Beauty Ideals

Most Blooded beauty ideals still apply to the average sovereign, such as an athletic appearance, noble jaw and nose and several other traits. However, specific to the sovereign, this should go without saying, however for the unrecognized and uninitiated, healthier sovereigns boast a larger and more numerous pointed rack of antlers. While females may have fewer, this is to be expected and in fact, females across the Sun Basin are not expected to have large sets at all and are encouraged, save for in outlying lands and those not within the Basin, to shave their own should the points grow large and greater in number than four in total. This said, males with a point count less than four are recognized as weaker than those with four or greater on the grounds that a strong and ideal adult male can and should naturally grow more than four at a time.

Gender Ideals

Due to their prolonged lifespan and very specific bearings, sovereign within the Basin are not expected to undertake arduous labor tasks as either an inheritance or a new craft they may enter for whatever reason. Those that do enter and live long enough to leave jobs like these, such as that of a soldier, are even more decorated than those that do not. Because of this, these brave sovereigns are 'top pick' among their kind. Though most satyl, even the men, undertake indoor and or relatively safe lifestyles, not out of want, but simply necessity. Especially women sovereign that have not bore children yet are expected to undertake lifestyles that would both bring new youth into the world and prolong their life.

Courtship Ideals

Due to their circumstances, finding a suitable wife or husband for a sovereign is no ordinary task. Because of their long lives, finding a suitable person to marry for non noble sovereigns can last for several decades. For those within royalty, subjecting themselves to marriage may not be much different than playing a century long game of chess, waiting for the right political alliance to potentially happen before attempting to solidify it through blood relations. It is not uncommon to find a sovereign pair courting for nearly a dozen years before marriage occurs.

Major Language Groups and Dialects

While every satyl is encouraged to learn their local dialect, Luna has given her children their own spoken tongue. Commonly recognized as moontongue, it is a requirement within the Kindling that all satyl, especially sovereigns, be taught in the manner of reading and writing basic moontongue.

Common Dress Code

Similar to whatever the local dress code is, there are some additions for most satyl. For instance, wearing jewelry and rings on one's own antlers signifies an certain rank of importance. It is common for noble sovereign to adorn their points with chains, jewels, rings and other fanciful trinkets. Similarly, even common sovereigns may adorn their heads with small items during weddings, ceremonies, celebrations and funerals.  It is also a common thing to notice that certain clothes must be made specifically for sovereigns. For example, wide collared shirts and smooth knitted leggings are a necessity for civilized satyl. Due to their antlers and as some would say, 'misshapen shaped legs', they require special qualities when finding and or making their own textiles.

Culture and Cultural Heritage

Much of the Sun Basin and sovereign society are intertwined. Despite being a relative minority, much of history and fashion is swayed if not outright determined by the longer lived sovereign satyl of the area. This is largely because their wisdom and knowledge of facts of life, as well as the dozens of noble sovereign families have made the cultural playing field extremely uneven. Not only are noble sovereigns seen as megalithic to a many common folk, but they are strange, even to other nobles who are not of their kind. The Temple's doctrine and nearly all of sovereign societal customs, regardless of location and or relevance, are intertwined in some way. It is no secret that currently, sovereigns control what happens within the Basin not with an iron fist or a velvet glove, but stainless steel open palm.

Common Taboos

There are dozens of strange and rude subjects within sovereign cultures, however, here are simply a few;
  • To be over the age of fifty and not having reproduced.
  • To purposefully remove ones own antlers or inscribe insignia onto them.
  • To fully cover ones own antlers.
  • To willingly live far from the Temple.
  • To not shave and keep one's own hooves in timely fashion.
  • To marry a non sovereign Blooded.
  • To kill a sovereign.

Average Physique
Sovereigns are a lithe kind, even for their average height. This can likely be attributed to the way Luna designed them, drawing from the beasts of the field in her creation. Because of this, satyls of all kindred are of nimble Blood, including sovereigns. It is known among those who are satyl and close to them that their unique legs allow them to maneuver with ease, even on unstable and uneven ground.
Body Tint, Colouring and Marking
In my observations, the sovereign of a mixture of dark and light complexions. Saying this, depending on the sovereigns point of origin can drastically alter the likelihood of their complexion. For instance, a sovereign whose lineage hails from Hyborea may have white hair and pale skin. In contrast, a sovereign from Teifel may be of black hair and a jet skin.
