The Old Blood

The Old-Blood     What the people of the Old Kingdoms of Furse that settled in the Dragon’s Head Nebula at the Start of the Thousand Years of Darkness are known as.     Many started as mercenaries in the services of the various lords of the Dragon’s Head Nebula. Hired to help defend the worlds after the Fabian Withdrawal of Drala.     Hired to defend from Tutha raiders from Kaledon and Eriu. These first warriors in the service of Drala found much reward and wealth. Many worlds lightly settled and protected. Many Furse warriors brought their families over.     As the newly formed Fabian-Tutha Kingdoms rose in the power void created by the withdrawal of the Fabian Dominion. They began to fight one another. Those first Furse Mercenaries were pitted against one another and betrayed.     Some rose up and defeated those who would betray them, and took the newly formed kingdom as their own. As the years went on ships escaping the Old Ruins would begin to appear outside the Dragon’s Head Nebula in greater numbers as they sought the safety of family, or new worlds to settle far from the fighting.     Dozens of kingdoms of the Old Blood rose from these early settlers. Kingdoms which would one day form the Commonwealth of Drala.     The High King of the Old Kingdom is also known as the High King of the Old Blood. Clans such as Gisking, Ice, Thenn, Grimmhart, Grip, Magon, Sledd, Sutton, etc are considered Old Blood.     Conquerers of the south east of the Dragon’s Head Nebula. The Old Blood came into conflict with the various Fabian Tutha worlds of the south, and the Kaledons in the north of the Nebula.     In time the Old Blood would fight against the Tutha of Eriu as well.     They established many small and petty kingdoms and converted to the Fabian Faith. In time these Kingdoms would unite and shatter as they fought one another for control of the south of the Dragon’s Head Nebula.     The Children of Rothgar invaded the Dragon’s Head Nebula with the Savage Host to avenge their father. The Kingdom of Daxholm became the last of the Old Blood Kingdoms to survive the Savage Host.     Many rulers would be proclaimed as the High King of the Old Kingdoms. Legends even say some were crowned but those but it was Osgar ‘The Great’ Gisking who was first crowned High Kingdom of the Old Blood.     The High Kingship was often just over lordship of the most powerful king of the era. They were the most powerful of the Old Blood factions which were quickly replaced or brought down by the other clans.     Osgar the Great was the first High King of the Old Blood not only to be crowned as such, but also pass on the title to a successor.
