Techno-Mages

Techno-Mages in Furse Space are under strict Memnon laws. The Techno Orders serve in the Imperial Guard like that of hundreds of others. Respected warriors, and scholars, they can often be found hired by the kings and lords of Furse Space in the service of the Empire.     Techno-Mages like gifted all over the Settled Worlds, live long lives. Although records claim no Techno-Mage has lived for more then a thousand years, there are some claims that Techno-Mages and Gifted are immortal humans. A common insult is to link Techno-Mages with the False Gods.     No one can say for sure what makes a Gifted so. Some are born, while others seem to come to their Gifts later in life. Those who are born with the Gift in Furse Space are taken from their family at the age of ten and enlisted to learn how to control their powers as a Techno-Mage can be a dangerous thing.     Techno-Mages have what can be said are the perfect body. Their cells heal faster, they have faster reaction eyes, and eyes are quicker. technologies   Techno-Mages and those seen as gifted are treated different under the laws in different nations. In Fabian Space Techno-Mages are outlaws while in the Techno Empire, only the Techlords may rule. In the far off Qin Space the God Emperess is said to have ruled since the time of the thirteen fleets. In Furse Space Techno-Mages are forbidden from positions of power in the government in all but the Sanctuary System. Where they are free to rule themselves and answer to the Furse Empire, and the High King and High Council.   Techno-Mages are known for their strict laws, many such laws based on the Memnon warriors of old. Techno-Mages are known to be put to death for acts and claim of godhood. Any Techno-Mage within Furse Space has the power to claim any child as a Gifted. These children are sent to be trained as Techno-Mages at the age of ten. Many are sent to local schools on major worlds but some are chosen to go to Sanctuary itself to train.   Many wars and civil wars have been fought with Techno-Mages. One such war saw the exile of several Techno-Mage orders who had taken control of the System of Sanctuary, who would later go on to found the Techno Empire to the east of the Furse Empire.   Techno-Mages are seen as great advisors and seekers of knowledge. Often found as teachers and guardians of knowledge. When not in the service of one lord or another, they are known to wander the Settle Worlds in search of answers that only they know the questions to. They sell their services like many, and are well paid. Those with the means to hire a Techno-Mage are seen as very fortunate.   Techno-Mages are very secretive.   It is rumoured that their home world Sanctuary is filled with vast libraries, and that they know every secret in the galaxy. Lost histories are said to hold the truth hidden in the endless books and records complied by the Techno-Mages.   Techno-Mages take part in a ceremony to determine if a child has the Gift. Some say the Gift is a magical power, others that it is just a means to push normals around, as any child picked, can’t be denied. Children picked are taken to their home system to be trained and serve them, although they aren’t kept hiden or secret. They visit home and family.   Techno-Mages have to spend 25 years wandering the stars, acting as agents to the poor, and outside, but can’t stay in one place for long. After 25 years they can be chosen to serve as a House Mage, in service of a House. Kind of seen as a nice retirement job.   Theory that Techno-Mages can regenerate and live forever. They say that the Tech-Mages show themselves for 25 years and longer in a Houses so they can be seen, and wander the world, but when they go back to their homeworld, they regenerate.   Tech-Mages always return home before death when they can.   Theory that there are only so many of them, and that real death is a sad affair, and that those who die a real death are remembered as heroes willing to risk it all for a cause.   Want a feeling of an uneasy, yet natural alliance between them and normal people. Sometimes there is mistrust, sometimes love.   When a child reaches the age of 6 they are walked through a ritual to see if they have the Gift, but the talent is said to be able to hold out until age 10. Puberty plays no role I think. If they have the Gift they are Taken. This puts fear of them into all families as they can claim their children as well, and have taken children of High Kings.   Rumour that they are an alien race mixed with Human DNA. Said to be the first ones of the Galaxy.   Techno-Mages have sworn only one oath, to the High Council, and it is said to be one reason the Empire never truly falls, as they will only serve the High Council. As serve the High Council is the only power that has the abilities to sent people into their system to investigate rumours of ruling ambitions, or godhood.   Rumours that the High Kings have a special unit designed to hunt down and kill Techno-Mages who step off the path, and fought them in many wars. They are also rumoured to be Techno- Mages that are willing to die.   Techno-Mages Teachno-Mages – The Mages of Sanctuary. Said to believe in the role of service. Sought after advisers. All Mages in Furst space must be registered with the Empire. Secret Assassin Unit – Mages of the Empire. Said to hold one loyalty, the empire, and that they present themselves to whoever claims to be emperor. They are much more likely to die, and hunt down False Gods, and mages that walk off the path. Said not to be registered, and normal people. Normals – Those who live in the population unaware of who they are, or maybe they do and just want a normal life, a family etc. Fallen – Mages expelled after the first Techno War. Said to have forged a vast empire. They believe in the thought that they were born to rule, and that normals should serve them. This breeds the brutal lord that uses its people as mere pawns, and the lord that protects his people. Fabian Faith – Although they were said to be killed by the Fabians, mages are said to be forced to serve as part of the priesthood. The Fabians hunted them and killed them, as their gods commanded. Tutha (Dumgarth/Walhaz/Eriu/Orit) - Seen as local gods of comminuties. They don’t seek power and are instead known for their wisdom, but few if any exist. Most were hunted down by the Fabians, and the varies nations of the Fabian Faith when the Fabian empire fell. Techno Empire - Technos who formed their own empire on the northern edges of settled space. Ruled by great and powerful Techlords. Technos from all over settled space have found their way to the Techno Empire in search of safety of their own kind. Common peoples are little more then slaves, with few rights.   Rumours about then are likely true to some degree. There are always different factions at work behind the scenes in their Home System.   Many say that the Technos are in fact the souls of mannkind reborn. Other claim that they are humans who learned the secrets to immortality, and use other humans to live. Some claim they suck the live force out of you, adding years and youth to their bodies. Other claim they take over the mind of others, and become that person, their old body dropping like a shell. It is said that when this happens the Techno can see every moment of that persons life. When they leave the body the body is killed.   There are those who claim that most Technos who are claimed from their worlds are infact future hosts, being driven to the slaughter. If this were the case cloning would be wide spread other claim.   It’s like technos have an on and off switch. One minute they are cheerful and happy, and the next cold and rational.   Techno-Mages are known to be immortal. Their bodies can age at a lower rate, and heal from wound others could not. Techno-Mages can and do die. They can be wounded and killed like any other Mann although they can survive wounds a normal person would not. The hand of a Techno-Mage does not grow back, nor it's head. There are no records of a Techno-Mage living pass one thousand, and only myths and legends of those who lived to two or three.   There are rumours about some Techno-Mages in the Settled Worlds as old as the Thirteen Fleets, and even before that.
