Memecryst
A memecryst looks like a piece of ruby or other red crystal, but is actually the physical form of pure memory. A memecryst is formed by long forgotten memeticancy, distilling the experiences and memory of a single user into a ruby red crystal, which can then be transferred or stored like any other physical medium. In certain situations, a memecryst may also form organically, without the external use of magic, particularly during extremely stressful or memorable moments. Organically formed memecrysts are exceedingly rare and usually do not last long.
A memecryst is incredibly fragile, and are intended primarily as a single use item. Once a memecryst has been used to transfer the memories and experience of the recorder, it usually breaks down into dust. The single use nature of a memecryst means that very few remain intact. This is further exacerbated as the magic used to create them has faded into obscurity, and most people in Chronia would be unaware of what a memecryst is, much less what it looks like or what it possesses. Only the most studied of academics would even be aware of the term, and almost none left alive will have seen one in real life.
However, used properly, a memecryst can be highly effective for transferring and recording the experiences of an individual. In particular, a memecryst, once activated, allows the audience to not only view the memory of the recorder, but also experience every facet of their memory, including sensation and emotion. The audience views and experiences this memory as if it is their own. In particularly strong memories, the audience may even obtain that memory permanently, gaining not only the experience but also the skills that may have been used in that memory.
In certain situations, the concentrated nature of a memecryst can also create natural self-defence mechanisms when left untouched for extended periods of time. An untouched memecryst may develop an ooze that surrounds it. Saturated with the concentrated memories within the memecryst, the ooze itself becomes able to siphon memories from passers by, and if it finds an unwilling victim, is able to absorb all of their memories and create impersonations of that individual.
