Eilann

We are a proud people, we have carried on the craft of blacksmithing for centuries. Our ancients would be ashamed if they were to see us today, pawns of the surak and their twisted goddess.

Basic Information

Anatomy

They are one of the larger races, the males being around 7' ft and the females 6' ft. Their wings are connected to their arms and are extremely powerful, their eyes are almost completely blind, seeing shapes in infrared but mostly seeing through sonar. The sonar of the eilann works differently than most, as their flight, the sounds they use for sonar are virtually silent. Only those with the most acute ears can sense it.

Ecology and Habitats

Their natural habitat is in large open caverns or ravines, their large size is allowed by these vast open areas. The Rikkokoa (ree-koe-koe-ah) Rift is the where the largest population of eilann call home, the rest are spread out across the cave systems in search for new work or adventure.

Civilization and Culture

Major Organizations

Suo-Pal-Rauta, is a large and multipurposed organization. Its main goal is to protect and serve the rift and their god, they act as an army when under attack and help with daily life when peaceful. The most coveted job to those who seek adventure is the Nahda, a group of highly trained eilann who scout the surrounding area and go on resource or political expeditions. They are the only ones who are allowed out of the rift and on the surface or caves.

Culture and Cultural Heritage

The eilann worship their great father Rauta, the god of iron and strength. Their most common occupation is metal working, and anything to do with crafting or building. At the bottom of the rift is what the eilann believe to be the incarnation of Rauta, a massive ancient creature that has protected the eilann for centuries.

Common Customs, Traditions and Rituals

Hauska, or the day of good fun, is the largest celebration of the eilann. Its a festival that lasts for fourteen days, each day is filled with games, food, and drink. Drinking is, in fact, considered the best way to celebrate Hauska. The rift is open to all for these fourteen days and many races from all around come to purchase their excellently crafted wears and partake in the fun.

Common Taboos

An eilann must never leave the rift without permission or good reason, they are a confident people but not stupid. The eilann raised in the care of the rift are like new-borns to the wilds of the caves or the vast surface, only those who are specially trained or accompanied by those trained are allowed to leave. They must never disrespect the craft of metal-working or blacksmithing, it is seen as a direct disrepect to their god.

History

Rikkokoa Rift is the birthplace and home to many eilann, the vast open ravine allows for full use of their wings and an excellent defensive position from those who cannot fly. The civilization is less of a city and more like a grouping of different families for self-preservation. This does not mean, however, that they do not care for their brethren like the surak. The eilann are a very social species since they are so strong they don't often fear other creatures or races. The only exception is the surak, before they came the Rikkokoa Rift was the proud home to all eilann, now they are being used by the surak. Karth does not recognize this hatred and goes on like nothing is happening, this infuriates the once prideful race.
Origin/Ancestry
The eilann are one of the oldest sentient races in the Alle.
Lifespan
The eilann live to be about 80, they grow up quickly, being fully grown at about 15.
Average Physique
The eilann are strong, being able to carry almost twice their weight. This is due to their arms and wings being one in the same, having to carry their weight comfortably when they fly.
