Atreyu the Forgotten

Fallen Aasimar Warlock. He's got secrets.   The life, of the Aasimar, Atreyu the Forgotten has been the tale of two lives. Atreyu was brought up in Waterdeep, also known as the City of Splendors or the Crown of the North. Atreyu is a descendant of the good deities who once walked among the mortals. After the Spellplague, most of the Aasimars became wandering nomads bound to no land or God and spread widely over the face of Faerûn. Many years have passed since Atreyu’s family moved to Waterdeep. Atreyu’s ancestors were well known for their loyalty to the kingdom of Waterdeep. They fought and protected the good of the people. Following in his ancestors’ footprints, Atreyu used his celestial powers for good and became a Knight of Waterdeep’s City Guard. Waterdeep was ruled by a sixteen-seat council whose members were secret. While this sixteen-seat council ruled in public, none knew the true identities of most of them.   Atreyu was 150 years old and right when he turned 100, he joined the city guard. Aasimar’s can live anywhere between 500-800 years old, which means Atreyu was still a young Aasimar. Atreyu was Around 72” tall (6’) and 200 pounds. His skin-tone was a dull-green color, almost emerald looking. His eyes were pearly opalescent, and he had the ability to see in the dark and dim light. Running through his black hair was little feathers that changed color with light. Most of the time Atreyu’s body gave off this bright aura that some could see. This was a trait he knew was passed down from his Aasimar ancestors. Atreyu’s personality was compassionate and full of kindness. He never worked for glory, thanks, or reward. Stopping evil was reward enough to him. Atreyu was always the one willing put his life on the line to save his kingdom he served.   The life of Atreyu seemed perfect, until one day everything changed…   About three years ago the city of Waterdeep was being threaten by an evil being from the Shadowfell called Gmork. Gmork was an evil sorcerer with the powers of a Hexblade sorcerer. The power of Gmork’s Hexblade put a shadow on Waterdeep and caused everyone to feel the sense of loss. Most became depressed and lonely. Waterdeep’s council new what had to be done to save the realm of Waterdeep. The council sent out hundreds of knights to put an end to Gmorks terror. During the last battle many were slayed, and hundreds wounded. In the last moments of the battle a warrior faced off against the dark power. Atreyu was brave right to the end. With a final slash of his sword, Gmork fell. Atreyu fell to his knees relieved it was over and that he saved the people of Waterdeep. In his last moments Gmork spoke and said “I will never be gone, and my evil will spread. The only way to rid me of this world forever is for you to take the power of the Hexblade for yourself. Then and only then will the curse be lifted from the city.” Atreyu remembered his ancestors and how bravely they all fought. Was this a trick or was Gmork telling the truth? Atreyu knew what he had to do. Without hesitation and the remaining survivors watching him, he drove his sword into Gmorks heart. Atreyu felt a rush of power and wind swirl around his body. He felt ancient magic he’s never felt before. As he stood up the sword in his hand began to change. It grew longer and he felt magic radiate from it. Atreyu knew the power of the Hexblade had taken over his body. He felt loneliness and depressed a feeling like he’s never felt before. As he began to leave, he heard a menacing voice in the back of his mind say, “How does this power feel Atreyu?” The hair on his neck stood up and chills came over his body. Atreyu did not have a clue what the future would hold with this new power.   Once Atreyu retuned to Waterdeep he could see the curse was lifted in the city. People were smiling again and singing. In his heart though all he felt was ice and cold. Atreyu expected a hero’s welcome, but he was immediately summoned to the council. This was odd to Atreyu, because the time he had lived in Waterdeep know one was ever summoned to see the council. In the chambers where the council was Atreyu could sense something was not right. He stood in the middle of sixteen hooded figures and could not see any of their faces. One figure approached Atreyu and said, “Atreyu, the rule of Gmork is no more, but we know what you had to do. The curse over the city may be gone, but it’s not forgotten. We sense the curse in you now and the Hexblade will try once again to take over our city. Because the Hexblade has taken over you, we can no longer have you serving as a Knight of the City Guard and we the council have decided to banish you from our land. Atreyu you will be forgotten.” A rage of emotion took over Atreyu from hearing this. He didn’t know how to react, but he heard that voice again in the back of his head “We don’t need them, all we need is each other. Let us rid this world of them.” With tears running down his face and anger in his heart, Atreyu unleashed magic he has never seen. Dark shadows appear out of his hands and began to attack the council members. The power was overwhelming and to much for Atreyu to manage. Suddenly, everything went black. Atreyu woke up in an area he’s never recognized. The council really did banish him. Atreyu never remembered what happen to the council members and he did not really care.   As the years passed, Atreyu now called Atreyu the Forgotten, has learn to use his new magic and has trained to be a Warlock. Now an outlander, Atreyu lives alone. He has learned to control the Hexblade power. Once a Knight who always looked out for his fellow man and would sacrifice anything, now only looks out for himself. Still though as an Aasimar, Atreyu’s bloodline comes from deities. Lying dormant is celestial powers that are waiting to come out. But at this point of Atreyu’s life, he suffers the curse. Will he rid himself of the Hexblade or will it be apart of him his whole life. Will he return to Waterdeep for revenge or seek peace with his home city? These are the stories yet told. The story being told now is Atreyu’s venture to Ten Towns of Icewind Dale where rumors have been speculating about the mysterious town that never sees daylight. Atreyu has heard of a witch named Auril the Frostmaiden who plagues the town. Atreyu, who is neutral at heart, hopes to find answers here to help rid him of the Hexblade curse or to return to his beloved home once again. Atreyu the Forgotten begins his life once again.
