The Cave

The Cave is along State Street, two blocks north of The Succubus Club. Despite their physical proximity, the two bars couldn't be further apart.   Where The Succubus Club is a hangout for the elite, the trendy and the thrill-seekers, The Cave is a bar for the blue-collar working class. It is popular with construction workers, bikers and underpaid city employees like garbage men. The bar stocks only beer and hard liquor. Requests for anything else do not usually end well.   The Cave lives up to its name, with a single, dirty, unlit sign hanging over weathered concrete steps leading down to a basement entrance. A fifteen-foot hallway leads to the bar itself. Along the walls of this hallway, at roughly 2ft intervals, are a series of antique doorknockers, ranging from gargoyles to mermaids. No doors, just knockers.   A swinging door leads into The Cave itself. The basement room beyond is roughly circular and concrete-floored, with wooden rafters crisscrossing the ceiling. The underground location together with low lighting gives it a damp, dark appearance, with even water dripping from the ceiling in places. A handful of old-fashioned tavern booths grace the back wall, but the majority of seating is at mismatched tables scattered across the open floor.   Though usually relatively quiet, Patrons can be found here at almost any hour, mostly regulars. It's a quiet spot where biker gangs go to do serious drinking without being annoyed by yuppies or college kids. The atmosphere is strangely subdued for the sort of people that frequent it   Unsurprisingly, the vast majority of the clientele are men, of typical macho-type. If they are impressed by the physical appearance of anyone who enters, they try to get them to join them for a drink. Likewise, attractive females receive similar entreaties, though for different reasons. Intellectuals or "wimps" will be ignored in the hope that they leave.   Behind the bar stand two staff, Fred (mid 40's, greying hair, burly) and Maureen (early 30's, blonde, short).   Other than the entrance, two doors lead off the room. One has a rusted "restroom" sign (unisex toilet), the other has the word "private" written in black marker.
