Opening the book ash falls out, the abyssal symbols within the book glow with an inner fire, appearing to leap out from the page and jumble around together leaving strange lingering shadows on the walls behind you as you read.
Working your way through, translating the odd snippet into common you find the book is confusing to say the least. It's attempts to be helpful only further confuse, as it appears to rely heavily on common assumptions and cultural understandings, which you as a human lack.
From what you do read you wonder how your race hasn't collectively been tricked into sellings its souls to these fiends.

Purpose

One of several books taken from a necromancers library that the party are chasing; West noticed this as the only book written in Abyssal and so has spent some time reading through

In what you are sure would make sense to the chaotic mind of a demon or fiend, this book appears to be all over the place, reminding you almost of a choose your own adventure, chapters start and then carry on after the next one, some text is seemingly randomly in a box unrelated to the chapter, quotes litter the pages, it's a mess.

Met with generally excitement from many fiends, and with pity by those who think the lesser demons are beyond help. It has since become something of a office joke book, given as a leaving gift if a demon is not making quota.

You discern that the book talks about a few main schools of thought within the demon world:

1. School of the Writhing Masses

this section promotes strategies to trick many into selling their souls to you, it suggest one aims for those who would not ask for much or would die soon, as many a young demon has promised too much to too many and been destroyed by their requests making any payments null.
This seems to be a fairly low risk but low returns strategy, lots of weak soles that are likely to be delivered to you in the far future.

2. School of Fallen Heroes

Alternatively to the above, one could focus on a single individual, a hero in their time of need or a down on their luck trader and promise them great things, working to within an inch of the demons power to bring them to glory before dragging them down.
You gather that this method is high risk, with the potential for high return, for if the 'hero' should die before the contract is fulfilled then the soul you get at the end may not be worth the cost of all your energy and investment.

3. School of Coincidence, the under dog

This one is a bit of a wild card strategy, it seems to propose either wandering around or waiting in one place for catastrophe to strike someone or somewhere, and then to swoop in and collect many 'revenge' contracts.
These being the best for return on investment, as the soul will be well matured through getting revenge and the cost on your power is fairly steady, a usual warlock agreement is the only cost, so a few spells a day.
