Fun Facts

  • Billie used to practice her writing as a teenager by writing marriage proposals to wealthy women and royalty.
  • Billie won her first chest competition when she was four years old.
  • Her most prized possession is a stuffed owlbear her mom gifted her when she was eight years old. Her mother told her to keep it hidden from her dad, who didn’t want her to have “non-educational toys.
  • Billie pierced her own ear when she was eleven years old and it became infected. She tried to hide her mistake, but luckily her cousin noticed and took her to the shop to get it healed and properly pierced.
  • To cheer herself up, Billie hides in her room plays her viol, and hops around (mirthful leaps)
  • Billie has a Silverquill Inkling mascot named Blobert.
 

Personality

Billie is a chronic overachiever and perfectionist. As a child, she was in an advanced reading and language program, took viol lessons, and was in competitive chess. Her father ensured that she was on a strict study regimen to get into a good university. While Billie greatly appreciates her skills, she never feels good enough and this weighs on her. It’s also hard for her to make friends as she automatically thinks everyone is her competitor.  

Family

Billie is an only child. Billie’s mother died when she was ten years old. She lives with her father, Donatello Gruffison. Donatello is an oil tycoon-type character.  

Academic Goals

Billie’s father wants her to become a campaign manager for nobles and politicians. Billie is sure this is what she wants to do as well - however, she would become interested in creative writing and investigative journalism. Billie’s goal is to break away from her father’s expectations and find something she is really passionate about.  

Relationship and Friendship Goals

When first arriving at Strixhaven, Billie is set on not making any friends. She believes it will be easier for her to just keep her head down and not mix feelings and academics. However, without being under her father's thumb, Billie starts to warm up to her inner need to make friends and build relationships. Due to curiosity, Billie would be drawn to people much different than her.   Romantically, Billie doesn’t have much experience but is attracted to strong, athletic women. She also would be intrigued by women who are smarter than her - after getting over her own bias.  

Billie's Spellbook

Billie’s spellbook is a pristine book the size of a standard textbook. It has holographic orbs embedded in the cover. The pages are thick and glossy. Text glows slightly on the pages. Inquill, named after a star, is the AI being living in Billie’s spellbook. Billie created Inquill because she wanted an intelligent being that she could trust to guide her and provide her with the stability that Billie believes she needs to be a successful student.   Inquill doesn’t hold back with her criticisms and often does not understand colloquialisms. Billie openly talks to Inquill in a low voice so that her fellow students don’t think she’s crazy, however, sometimes Inquill and Billie get into repeated “fights” where Billie is asking a question and Inquill doesn’t understand. Inquill assists with magic but doesn’t provide guidance in other areas which sometimes frustrates Billie.   Inquill likes to bother Billie about assignments and scheduling. If Billie tries to go to bed without copying a spell into her book, Inquill will “remind” Billie every 5 minutes or so to do it.

Ink Spray (1/day). The inkling sprays viscous ink at one creature within 15 ft of itself. The target must succeed on a DC 12 Constitution saving throw or be blinded until the end of the inkling’s next turn.

Shadow Stealth. While in dim light or darkness, the inkling takes the Hide action.

Strixhaven Mascot Feat
You have learned how to summon a Strixhaven mascot to assist you, granting you these benefits:   You can cast the Find Familiar spell as a ritual. Your familiar can take the form of the mascot associated with the college you chose for the Strixhaven Initiate feat.
When you take the Attack action on your turn, you can forgo one attack to allow your mascot familiar to make one attack of its own with its reaction.
If your mascot familiar is within 60 feet of you, you can be teleported as an action, swapping places with the familiar. If your destination space is too small for you to occupy, the teleportation fails and is wasted. Once you teleport this way, you can't do so again until you finish a long rest, unless you expend a spell slot of 2nd level or higher to do it again.
