Dragonscale Shield Level 1 Abjuration Casting Time: 1 action Range: Self Components: V, S, M (a small dragon scale, which is consumed upon spellcasting) Duration: 1 minute (concentration)   Description: With a guttural chant and a flash of iridescent light, you call upon the protective power of dragons. A shimmering veil of draconic energy ripples around you, forming a translucent shield of hardened scales.   Draconic Scales: While under the effects of this spell, you gain the following benefits:   Enhanced Defense: You gain an AC bonus of +2. Elemental Ward: Choose one damage type: fire, acid, lightning, or cold. Until the end of your next turn, you have resistance to the chosen damage type. Dragonfire Retaliation: Whenever a creature within 5 feet of you hits you with a melee weapon attack, you can use your reaction to deal 1d4 + your spellcasting ability modifier damage of the chosen damage type back to the attacker. At Higher Levels: When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 2nd level or higher, the AC bonus, resistance duration, and Dragonfire Retaliation damage increase by 1 for each slot level above 1st.   Classes: Draconic Bloodline Sorcerer, School of Abjuration Wizard, Fighter (Eldritch Knight)   Lore: Whispered amongst dragonkin as a first step towards mastering their ancient defenses, Dragonscale Shield imbues you with the protective might of your draconic heritage. This spell offers potent AC boons, flexible elemental resistance, and even the chance to retaliate against attackers with a burst of draconic flame.   Notes:   This spell provides versatile defensive options, making you sturdier and offering protection against specific damage types. The choice of elemental resistance allows for tactical adaptation based on the situation. The Dragonfire Retaliation adds an element of risk and reward, potentially punishing melee attackers. The low level and flexible nature of the spell make it a valuable tool for various dragon-themed characters.
