Panya

Panya’s life as a sheltered princess of Oyo was shattered when her twin brother, Oyewole informed her that she was to be married to Oba Lapido in order to form an alliance between his kingdom and her father’s. Desperate to avoid the marriage, she called on Oya for help. Oya responded, sitting on Panya’ s head the night of her marriage then giving her the strength to not only fight her new abusive husband, but to kill him. Panya fled, wandering the continent under Oya’s subtle guidance and learning the ways of a fighter and a healer. Panya is a Yoruba priestess who receives her power from her orisha Oya. She depends on her fighting skills which she learned from her brother and medicinal skills she acquired during her travels. She avoid calling on Oya unless absolutely necessary, for when Oya ‘sits on her head’ she has little control over what the orisha will do. Panya has traveled the continent alone and experienced many of her own adventures before settling in Mombasa. Changa hired her to his crew after she saved his life when he was poisoned by Belay’s sons.
