Creaton Goranad

Grandmaster Creaton Goranad

Creaton Goranad was the final grandmaster of the original Order of Laurego, the final link in a chain lasting ten thousand years. He was an exceptionally powerful warrior and a genius military commander, but he was a less than competent statesman. He is known primarily for his service to the Order during the 3rd Imprisoning War and immediately after prior to the Order's Fall. He is secondarily known for his training of about 50 percent of the High council of the New Order of Laurego immediately prior to the 4th Imprisoning War. This occurred immediately prior to his death, and for his service to the New Order, he is immortalized in a statue presiding above the entrance to the Grand Temple of Light in Canfyll, refurbished after the crowning of King Arkiland IV.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Creaton Goranad was in excellent physical condition throughout his life, but by the time of his death, his physical body had deteriorated to the point he actively supplemented his strength with Laurego to keep pace. When not doing so, he walked with a limp, and his skin betrayed his age.

Facial Features

Sharp face with a scar on his left cheek from a duel in his early adolescence.

Physical quirks

Ambidextrous. Walked with a limp in his old age.

Special abilities

Creaton was the most powerful elven spellcaster to date, having impressive knowledge of lightning, telepathy, and gravity manipulation. He was notably weak in noncombat spellcasting and transportation.

Apparel & Accessories

At the time of his death, Creaton Goranad wore a green jerkin and brown pants over fine mail armor, and under a purple cloak. He carried a sword as a sidearm, the signet ring of his house, and a pack containing his journals.

Specialized Equipment

Creaton wielded the Gwaylieth in and out of battle. The weapon was passed down to him after the death of Kalaryn Brightwing, his predecessor. The weapon passed from his possession to Cyfiander Felrhyss after his death.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Creaton Goranad was born into a wealthy and politically active family in Canfyll/Tolv. His childhood was quiet, as his family prepped him for a career in politics, until his unprecedentedly early and massive laurego flash. After this event, he was immediately attached to the The Order of Laurego and trained at the The Great Temple of Light until he was raised to a yeoman of the 2nd corps. He served with distinction in the corps for 10 years prior to his next promotion. His politically active family influenced him to run for office, which he did: representing the 2nd corps in the The Full Council of Laurego . Given his wunderkind status, Creaton immediately caught the attention of Grandmaster Kalaryn Brightwing, who took him on as her apprentice. This act promoted Creaton from Commander to 1st Yeoman, raising him to the The High Council of the Order of Laurego. During his time on the High Council, he met the rest of the leaders of the various branches, including Cylgwynn Felhryss, at the time the Watchman of the Order. Creaton's ascension was under the shadow of a looming potential invasion by the The Xayke Confederacy, and his training within the order both before and after he was apprenticed to Kalaryn reflected the order's increasing militarization. His wider family died out soon after his ascension to 1st yeoman, increasing his anger towards the Xayke. In the year 2822, The 3rd Imprisoning War broke out at the battle of Onroc. Creaton's involvement in the war, meanwhile, began at the battle of Mount Kako, evacuating the 3rd yeoman corps. Creaton took personal command of the 3rd corps after their evacuation, leading a grueling defensive grind against 3 Xayke legions defending the south of Gafnad, while his mentor Kalaryn began a protracted campaign against another legion, concluding with her death at the battle of Threnwynn. After this event, Creaton was raised to The Grandmaster. After being raised to the grandmaster, Creaton assembled a grand alliance of the armies of the free peoples, notably the The Circle of Kings, The Koronat Empire, and Gafnad. Creaton led the military alliance with distinction, especially at the 1st and 2nd Battles of Canfyll, and the battle of Gorlag Tower, the final miltary engagement of the 3rd Imprisoning War. After the war, Creaton was responsible for the rebuilding of the Order of Laurego after their unprecedented casualties. His failure to manage the council during these years, particularly his failure to prevent the full council from clearing the various treaties made with the armies of the free peoples, led directly the order's fall at the Sack of Canfyll in 28. Creaton fled to the Yarnak Wastes, where he remained until General Koz the Mighty entered the territory of what had once been Gafnad once again. He followed the Xayke incursion, meeting the backbone of the The New Order of Laurego: Almaera Blackstrom, Alnor Blackstrom, Cyllrae Felrhyss, and Cyfiander Felrhyss. Creaton trained the group in Hauregt while pursuing Koz until his death at Rytt.

Sexuality

Creaton Goranad never had a recorded romantic or sexual partner, having said he was joined to the Order.

Education

Creaton Goranad was brought up in the schools of Canfyll before his flash. After his laurego flash, he was immediately transfered to study hauregt at The Great Temple of Light. He rose quickly and was named Yeoman of the 3rd corps at the age of 29.

Accomplishments & Achievements

Creaton Goranad was the final grandmaster of the original Order of Laurego, and its last surviving member. He led the Order of Laurego through the 3rd Imprisoning War prior to the order's fall at the hands of Arviera and Koronat. After his death and the gwaylieth remained unpassed, the Order of Laurego came to an end. He stands as one of 4 known mortals to face Okthor personally and survive, alongside Brynn Chaearlon, Karaglen Dragonsbane, Danor.

Failures & Embarrassments

During the 3rd imprisoning war, Creaton failed to properly guard the Cadnyr pass leading to a bloody campaign to repulse the Xayke culminating in the 1st battle of Canfyll, one of the worst battles of the war. Creaton also failed to forsee flanking maneuvers by General Rakosi at the battle of Threnwynn, leading indirectly to the death of Grandmaster Brightwing. After the 3rd Imprisoning War, Creaton's political mishandling of the delicate situation and failure to rein in the racism and xenophobia within the Order of Laurego led directly to its downfall. Finally, at the end of his life, Creaton failed to coalesce his team of new warriors, that he hoped would become a new order, into a single fighting unit. His lack of trust in them led directly to his own death, as he chose to engage Koz on his own.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Creaton's motivation is two-fold: to fulfill his duty of the grandmaster of preserving and defending the Order of Laurego, and destroying as many Xayke as possible. He sees the Xayke as the thing that destroyed the Order, and has lumped his duty as grandmaster and destruction of the Xayke into one.

Likes & Dislikes

Creaton loves being listened to and has a tendency to talk to himself if nobody is around.    Creaton has a strong dislike for alcohol and the "desires of the flesh." He hates the Xayke with a fiery passion, and to a lesser extent, anyone who is not elven.

Virtues & Personality perks

Creaton Goranad was known throughout the order as a charismatic and confident leader. His self-confidence was unmatched and held the order together through the dark times of the 3rd Imprisoning War almost singlehandedly. His respect for order members of low-born birth was beloved and his respect for hard work placed one of the strongest high councils in history.

Vices & Personality flaws

Creaton Goranad was self-righteous to a fault. His assumption in his own correctness and his confidence in elven superiority burned political bridges in his career after the 3rd Imprisoning War, leading directly to the fall of Gafnad and the Order of Laurego. His reputation for ignoring the circumstances of birth in favor of work, while admirable, fell into the trap of confusing power for skill.

Hygiene

Creaton had immaculate hygiene during his time with the order, which only somewhat deteriorated during his time alone. His hair had turned white, but he kept it immaculately groomed, but his beard was relatively long and messy.

Social

Religious Views

Creaton Goranad was a devout worshipper of Argylydd.

Speech

Creaton Goranad was exceptionally excited when he spoke, and he had a talent for rallying the people he heard to his cause. His voice was relatively high, but resonant, and his accent seemed cultured to those around him. Behind closed doors, he was sometimes referred to in jest as Creaton the scorcher because of his insults. He generally only loosed them to those he cared about, who would take the joke.
