Channel Valley Maritime Port

It was not without some sense of irony that the Apothics placed a major port facility within what the humans had called Mwarth Vallis; the groove linking the cratered Arabia Terra with the broad, open plains of Acidalia Planitia was once an outflow to a long-lost sea. Dry and dusty, Channel Grove has become an important - if not particularly attractive - center of trade for the Martian colonies.   The city is a surrounded by a series of barriers, a mishmash of different styles and materials used as the facility expanded over the years. A hexagonal latticework of liquid photons, slowed to 1/10th the speed of light, forms an orangey barrier that hangs overhead, keeping out the dust and keeping in the nitrogen-rich atmosphere. The buildings within are largely unadorned, built for function rather than any artistic grace. Still, the importance of the place is clearly visible: aside from the constant comings-and-goings of ships, trucks, and travelers, Channel Valley is home to one of the largest military garrisons in the Inner Planets, and all the associated units, businesses, and operations needed to support it. The location would seem odd, if it weren't for the fact that the compound watches over the Crucible, one of the few large-output facilities in existence where new Apothics are constructed and receive their initial program loads.   On its northern edge, raw materials, troop transports, and freighters full of newly-constructed Apothics travel to-and-fro, a constant flow of goods and individuals, commerce and soldiers. Towering cranes punctuate the otherwise low skyline, endlessly swinging containers back-and-forth. Activity at the port never ceases, a constant reminder of the relentless expansion going on off-world.   Channel Valley was where, according to their BIOS, Hall-3562 was built.
