The Elements

The second of the sorceries, a gift to the second of the intelligent races. It was originally used by the Zerɮudōju, who mastered it; it was the secondary sorcery of the ɮudōju, and the tertiary sorcery of the Ðōnujulaeab.   This sorcery, interestingly, is considered to the most 'unnatural' of the three. Its inherent concept of rapid creation and destruction of things not of this world at first made the ðōnujulaeab fear it; this is partially why they used it so little. But soon understanding was found and the fear gave way to joyful acceptance.   This ability was used by the zerɮudōju to help them survive in the early days. They were not evolved for some of the harsher climates in the world and this helped them with that. They could warm themselves in the cold or vice versa, they could create water in a desert, and above all they could create shadows. This was the first time any creature or thing had ever been able to do so willingly. They could protect themselves from the sun without need for trees around them, enabling them to travel through areas previously inaccessible.

Effect

The Elements are also called the sorcery of the other, or the aether. It involves calling upon the elements in the world around oneself and asking them to listen. This sorcery directly acts upon the lines of elemental energy and manipulating their power into the Physical World.   The three ways this sorcery can be used are creation, manipulation, and destruction. Energy can be summoned from the beyond and made physically manifest in the world. This works conversely as well, and a specimen of a certain element can be returned to where it comes from. An existing specimen can also simply be changed and moved without needing to create more or destroy pieces.   Its earliest known uses were that of the zerɮudōju using it to protect themselves from the sun. They called to the shadows for help and the shadows heard. They then began to experiment with what they could do and discovered the uses of the five elements: fire, air, water, ice, and earth. They could create, manipulate, and destroy matter made of those elements. It made travelling and protecting themselves much easier.   They found ways to combine the elements and make new things, things that were a mix of two things. But they could never truly manipulate anything not mostly made of a pure element.   It was they that truly discovered the elemental ley lines. Before there had just been a vague sense of power. Now, it was known the energy that actively flowed through and influenced their world. The zerɮudōju could feel the movements more acutely than others; the movements and locations of the ley lines of energy, the movements of the earth, the tides and their currents, the air streams above them.

Side/Secondary Effects

Their practice of sorcery enabled them to live longer, though it was not through the elements alone that they extended their lifespans. It is also rumoured that lifelong dedication to one element (longer than any ɮudō could live) could physically alter a being.   The overuse of the elements, especially within a short time, can put great strain on the user. The user will find themselves feeling weak and tired as though they just worked physically for a long time. This is because of the heavily physical aspect of this sorcery. After great use, one can feel tired, bloated, or numb. Numbness is a sign of over-extension and one must stop immediately. The quality of the practice will also greatly decline as the user's strength deteriorates.

Manifestation

This sorcery is entirely physical. It is seen in the way the element is manifested, moved, or banished. It could be a riverbed filling with water, a boulder moving of its own accord, or a fire going out. It is easily and quickly seen often as well as felt, making this a difficult sorcery to be subtle with.   The elements as said before can also be combined and used at once, though this takes time and is a very difficult skill. One is pulling power from two very different places at once. The result of a failed attempt is affectionately called 'sludge' or 'elemental sludge.' It happens when one is unable to properly focus on the two elements separately and thus their efforts manifest as a lump of the two together. It is generally less responsive than either element separately.

Source

Their powers flow from the world itself, often credited to the shadow and their own inner strength.
