The Ulath

For many generations around the islands that surround the Gleaming Teal Abyss, especially around the southeast of Efren and west of Owhua, there have been tales of a huge beast that lives in the Gleaming Teal abyss.

Many of the islanders have tales and drawings that they have passed down. A few fishermen that venture a little way into the Gleaming Teal Abyss have stories of the creature. However, most around Central Haven have just put it off as fantasy.

That is until recently one was spotted laying on the rocks of a small shoal by Efren. Another was spotted by an exploration expedition near Owhua. There were several eyewitnesses and pictures were able to be taken. Some scales had been retrieved from the rocky shoal.

The creature was described as having clam jade eyes sitting in an angular skull. There was a snout, with small rounded ear-like appendages sitting on top of its head. Two curved horns curled on each side of the jaw. Hairs appear to be crystals growing on the bottom of the jaw. The head is attached to the muscular body by a thick muscular neck with two ridges running down the back. The muscular body has four limbs which are also thick and muscular. Each limb ends with four digits that have webbing in between, and claws. They have a long rudder-like tail. The body is covered in smooth scales with the scales along the belly being a different color. On land, the belly scales appear to be either brown or green, while in the water those scales sparkle and seem to glow. They have named it the Ulath, which combined the names of the two people that saw it.

With this being such a newly discovered species the experts know very little. However, they are now talking with the different villages on the islands that border the Gleaming Teal Abyss, gathering more information. A few takeaways that they have learned so far are that the Ulath hangs around the southeast of Efren and west of Owhua the most. There are few tales around Nucrana border islands and only one by Lafliuton. Some have questioned if it migrates but there are still more questions than answers with this new discovery.
