Mukas

The Mukas are a group of islands in the long chain that creates the island barrier to the Gleaming Teal Abyss. These islands sit between Nucrana and Owhua. They are far enough away from either continent that they have their own government. They are all shifters, both feline, and canine.   The Mukas people are well known around the world as excellent sea fairing people. The few successful expeditions into the Gleaming Teal Abyss have been maned by Mukas. Many of the Mukas have mastered water or wind magic to a higher degree than anywhere else in Central Haven. There is a magical school on each island most are dedicated to wind and water magic. Many come to learn about such magic after they have completed their studies elsewhere. Many sailors come to also learn techniques about sailing.   Sailing and magic is not the only defining thing about the Mukas. There is also a plant that grows nowhere else in the world that they harvest. It is the Malope Pendula or sea flower as it is commonly known. The Mukas have many festivals that have to do with the seas and the seasons. Their religion is a little fractured between the islands. However, there are two gods they worship, Adia of the sea and Ikruen of the wind. Their gift to the Mukas is the Malope Pendula. In return for the Malope Pendula the Mukas return to the sea another plant called Aucuba abies that grows on each island plentifully. Where this slimly plant is placed in the ocean the Malope Pendula appear or are in better shape the following year. How the Mukas came to be is a mystery. There are tales that have been passed along about how they came from inside the Gleaming Teal Abyss. There are other tales that the Mukas are freed slaves from capsized ships. And yet still there are other tales that the Mukas are the children of Asia and Ikruen here to tend to the Malope Pendulas. However, historians are still working on the truth.
