Mistwich Courthouse
The Mistwich Courthouse was built by a wealthy shifter who invited the monarch to visit. The monarch’s reply was only if he had a suitable location to stay when he visited. So the shifter built a grand palace, it had many bedrooms, servant quarters, sitting rooms, sunroom, kitchens large enough to feed the whole town, at the time. A ballroom, and training yard for the monarch’s warriors. This was the first stone structure in Mistwich. A gate surrounded the whole building. Once the main gate opened through a short hallway you came to fully see the building. It stretched from wall to wall. The building was narrow allowing room in the back for the garden and training grounds. You could get to this though a built into the house a gate that lead through to the back on the right side close to the wall. The outside walls were highly decorated by the royal crests and other symbols for the kingdom. Everyone in town contributed to the building it this grand palace. Sadly that monarch never came and visited as he died shortly after it was completed. Fortunately the next monarch was able to and spent a fair amount of time there.
As the town grew the need for a new royal residence was needed and the original was abandoned. The local leaders of Mistwich talked to the previous owner and bought it for a fair price. At first the local leaders just converted it to hold the court and to house prisoners. It quickly be came apparent that some changes needed to be made.
The kitchens were redesigned to be newer and to also be a place that local officials, visiting officials, and other workers could relax. The back garden and training area were transformed to hold criminals. Part of the building held the law enforcers. That was expanded to include a training indoor training area for them. Next several rooms were combined to make court rooms. Now as the town has grown bigger they decided to keep the law enforcers and the jail within the walls, while on the outside many buildings have been built with connecting walkways to within the walls for easy access.
Much of the outward appearance of the original building has not changed, just the inside and use.
