Tower Knight's Shield

An impossibly thick and heavy blackened steel shield.   When the shield is raised, its protection extends outwards by approximately 3 meters in each direction, indicated by a shimmering effect. Incoming forces from the general direction that the shield is facing are redirected as if they had directly struck the shield itself. Even as the shield wore down due to wear and tear, the original protection radius remained.   Despite its relatively powerful effect, the shield is little more than a novelty due to its sheer weight. Weighing around three tons, it's actually impossible for any human to wield it unassisted. After the death of the Tower Knight, it was incorporated into a set of steel gates, its force dispersal effect serving to protect the entrance of the city he once served.

Enchanting Curiosity

The magic of the shield is rather interesting in that it's reminiscent of, but not directly equivalent to, hard light and embergilt. Instead of drawing from some metaphysical/higher-dimensional energy source, the defense has a very physical reservoir. This is another piece of evidence towards the idea that many phenomenon are not inherently reliant on the Planar-Celestial reality boundary, so much as this boundary simply being the most common set of circumstances required to create the effects.

Creation

The shield actually has a Xiphaem Circuit circuit running through it, carved throughout its bulk through decades of use. This originally came about through an odd use of fleshcraft in a moment of desperation- trying to use xiphaem to reinforce an object (and make it easier to lift) instead of one's own body. The end result was something along the lines of artifice, the blood sacrifice acting as a Transmutation of Will. Once the initial attempt succeeded, the seed was planted for the potential conception of an artifact. As the shield saw more battles, the circuit grew just like any other. Before its owner's death, the shield prevented enough damage (and was used in enough significant battles) to gain the Significance necessary to become an Artifact.
