Peistanam (Stonewyrm)
Stonewyrms, often known to the Eideli as peistanam, are creatures of the scalewyrm family native to the southern jungles. They're centipede-sized decomposers with the unusual ability to 'swim' through solid stone as if it were water, magically fertilizing the earth and rock left in their wake. They play a prominent role in Eideli mythology; the Eideli pantheon's deity of (re-, depending on interpretations)birth is generally depicted as a massive stonewyrm, forming part of a trinity representing birth, life, and death.
Giant stonewyrms, on the other hand, are a very new species, having only existed for around two centuries. They first appeared a few years after the time of the Eideli Empire's shattering, although the exact timing and means of creation are unclear. The Abyssian faith portrays them as the Sleeper's suturers, patching up wounds on the world left by their slaying of the old tyrant goddess and her corrupt empire. One thing is for sure: unlike their reasonably-sized cousins, there is no way that these giants sustain their bodies through mundane means, given how little they eat, how much they move, and how damn huge they are.
There are far fewer giant stonewyrms than one might expect- given how many seem to appear around every chasm that opens in the ground, it would not be unreasonable to expect them to be everywhere beneath one's feet. However, this isn't the case. Rather, giant stonewyrms naturally congregate around chasms, especially newly opened ones, so whatever population exists is much more visible. They regularly cross back and forth in these chasms, hinting that whatever these titans eat appears around such tears in the world.
