Of Mill Field

The Great Windmill of Mill Field is enormous, and plainly visible from a rather impressive distance in any direction.
It is a beloved landmark of the townsfolk, and a great deal of the town's traffic passes beneath its blades every day.
Gnomish everlamps are strung all along the blades during festivals and holidays, and the townsfolk work together or hold competitions to create complex moving art with the lights.
The mill (and indeed, the entire surrounding area) are of crucial strategic importance in the Civil War, being a centrally located crossroads on the Isle of Viridius as well as the largest source of grain in the entire kingdom.

Purpose / Function

Because of Mill Field's location in the middle of the plains of Viridius, there is a steady wind blowing almost constantly. And because the surrounding countryside is mostly farmland, the need for a centrally located grain mill spurred the construction of this looming giant.
