Description
The Silent Place is a desolate site located in the far north of Caligone. It is a large crater-like expanse about half a mile across where the Shroud is thin and the climate is temperate. Most curiously, eldritch do not seem to frequent this place, but they do seem rather protective of it, acting particularly aggressive to any humans who find themselves near this area. This combined with the still weather and lack of nearby human settlements means the location is usually left in a dead silence, as the name I gave it would suggest.
The land there is all dirt, and mostly featureless. I have yet to discover why it is that the eldritch covet this location, but it may be in the same vein as to why humans protect useless structures like churches.
History
I first came across this spot in the 41st year following the Shroud, and since then few humans have ever discovered the place. Those that do seldom interfere with the location, and don't seem intent on spreading the information. I have only ever been able to make a handful of trips here, but I have noticed little to no change.
Speculation
I believe that this site must either hold metaphysical value to the eldritch (like a religious site or a memorial) or be essential to their continued existence. I can think of few other realistic reasons for their wanting to guard it. Though my thorough searching of the area has not yet given reason to favor or even believe either speculation yet. And I dare not do much more, such as to dig, in order to learn more, as I fear a retaliation the likes of which even I could not handle. So this thread of curiosity will have to wait until a lesser mind attempts such a thing, or I gain the means to safely continue research.
