DescriptionCarriers are fast and skittish members of the eldritch. They stand about 9 feet tall, but their total mass isn’t similarly large due to their lankiness. Their body consists of a set of 10 long, spider-like legs that all converge to an orb-shaped point rather than a central body. They possess another set of similar but much shorter appendages that wrap upward away from this point. These other appendages form a small cage of sorts above that contains a couple dozen more fleshy orbs that can usually be seen pulsing or shifting slightly. When the creature needs to move quickly, which it seems to think it often does, it will lower its cage portion much lower to the ground before taking off. When running, they sometimes make a shrill, shrieking noise, which has been verbalized by humans as “EEEK EEEK”.
Behavior
Carriers are some of the least naturally aggressive known eldritch. When confronted with any sort of threat, they are known to abscond, occasionally dropping some of the orbs they carry in the process. They are most commonly seen in the aftermath of an assault by more powerful eldritch or in ruins, scavenging for scraps. They are also spotted occasionally just outside settlements, depositing some of the orbs. It is unclear if the orbs are eggs or some kind of infantile stage for the Carriers, but the orbs will eventually sprout legs and begin scavenging for themselves. This makes them one of the only varieties of the eldritch with a known means of reproduction. Young Carriers are a common way for new exiles to meet their end, and this seems to be the intent behind leaving their young so close to humanity. This poses a question about the intelligence and adaptability of the eldritch, as humans did not always congregate in this way—a topic too lengthy to explore in this entry.
