Calencian Creation Myth

The Calencian Creaton Myth is an important mythological event that takes place before the Early Calencian Civilization Era. It has been recorded in The Öse, and primordial beings Light, Dark, Straita, Ruk, Kaes, and Akua play a large role in the Myth.

Summary

„There were once only two primordial forces: Light and Dark. These forces were in constant conflict, and their strife was destroying any sparks of life in the emptiness. Along came Ruk, first of the Merteriae. Ruk saw these two creating a mess of what was to be the world, and decided to put an end to it. He took his large body, and fell upon the two, keeping them underneath him. Later came Straita, second of the Merteriae. Straita decided to create life to live on Ruk’s back. She took her hands and swirled them around, and when she opened them up, a creature was inside. She named him Maen, and placed him upon Ruk’s back. She had given him intelligence, and she hoped that would do him well. Unfortunately, there was no air for him to breathe, so the first Maen died off. Seeing this, Straita called upon the third of the Merteriae, Kaes. Kaes sat upon Ruk’s back, filling the nothingness with air. And so Straita created another Maen and placed him upon Ruk’s back. But this Maen had no food to eat, so he too died. But as he roamed Ruk’s back, he left fertile soil for the next Maen. Straita, seeing his starvation, called upon Akua, last of the Merteriae, and had him bore a hole in the center of Ruk’s back and lie there. She then sprinkled seeds upon the surface and let the plants grow. As Straita looked upon the surface of Ruk's back, she formed within her hands the last attempt to bring sentient life to this land. She placed him on the surface of the world, naming him Cale. She took her hands and made him a bride, that he may bring children into this world. She named her Calen, and placed her alongside Cale. She gave them seeds to sow and rocks to build with. It is said, however, that Cale and Calen were frozen in time, by Straita herself, to protect them from the blast of the Sky Comet."
