Bio

This is the sort of thing that I think would be better handled in person so bare with me. I suppose going into this I should probably talk about myself. Oh, by the way, just Ruben is fine. Don’t feel the need to be formal with me.   I was selected for this prodigious academy for my bladesmithing expertise. I own a private workshop and forge in Gijón, Spain that handles specialized orders around the world. Most of them are more artistic in nature, often replicas of medieval or renaissance weaponry. My business is better known actually for its production of knives than swords, but I also handle some obscure orders such as requests for glaives or bladed tonfas. It’s honestly inconsistent. One day, I’m smithing a set of kitchen knives, the next day I’m smithing a Chinese hook sword.   So, uh, that’s why I’m here. I was accepted for making really, really pricy blades that are considered a form of art to some. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder I suppose. Outside of my profession, I have a strong interest in literature and history about the dark ages and the early modern world. I also have a soft spot for poetry and fairytales. There are plenty of well-known tales like Cinderella and Little Red Riding Hood, but I mean more like The Raven and The Nightingale. Gothic horror is a passion of mine, I write some works myself, but nothing of professional quality or worthy of being published. I also have some personal interest in older manuscripts from renaissance philosophers and the micro-history of France, Spain, and England. It surprises me how often history focuses on the major characters and never explains the voices or thoughts of the common people.   That kind of stuff is niche and might not have a very large audience. I do have some background in roleplaying. I used to play a lot of make-believe games as embarrassing as that feels to say. I don’t see any reason to not be candid or direct with my experiences or what I enjoy, so if anyone here is interested in that sort of thing, I’ll be around. I am invested in some TTRPGs in extension and am actually working on one myself that I haven’t gotten around to playtesting. I especially love fantasy settings and am captivated by the concept of chivalry and heroism. After all, who doesn’t want to be the hero of their own story?
