The Hadesian Wastes

Geography

The Hadesian Wastes compromise much of Olympia’s interior , forming a roughly oval patch of dark gray lands that can be seen from space . It’s almost entirely surrounded by the thick Minosean Forests save for its north west where the river Charon lies , its only connection to the Vast Oceans of Atlantis.   The Landscape with the exception of a few small hills and plateaus is entirely flat. The River Charon which runs from an as of yet undiscovered Underwater reservoir serves as the one constant landmark of this harsh land .   Charon’s water has an unusual greenish gold colour which comes are a result of a particular strain of algae like microorganisms that live in its water along with it being saturated with a variety of heavy metals. The Water also happens to be very toxic with a single mouthful enough to kill a man in ten minutes. Only the creatures that call this barren wasteland home have evolved to be able to drink this vile liquid.   The Soil , like the water , is also laced with a variety of metals which make life almost impossible for almost all plant life (even hardy Atlantean types ). The only planets that live here are the mist moss and the Zaqqum Tree .   The metal content of the Earth however can result in some very beautiful coloured areas, called Arathea’s footsteps.

Fauna & Flora

The Wastes despite what their desolate appearance might suggest is host to a robust eco-system , every bit as lethal as other Atlantean Biomes .   The Soil is home to a rice biosphere of hardy bacteria which thrives in the salt rich environment. Most of these bacteria are relatively harmless to humans with the exception of the legrun bacterium which causes fatal necrosis within two hours after gestating in the body .   Above of those lie the mist moss plants which form the base of almost all food webs here , they are named for their cyclical release of a noxious gas at dusk which can cause paralysis. The only other major plant here is the Zaqqum tree which seems innocent enough until one tries to eat its fruit whose juices are highly acidic .   The trees provide shelter for a species of vampire hive bats named the Vladyus . These fist sized pests are easy enough to deal with alone but always travel in massive swarms that can suck a creature ten times their size dry in less than ten minutes.     Herbivores that live here include the large armoured Clossal Wyrms and the Killangroes .   Mid-tier predators range from the pack hunting eeloraptors who wield fearsome electric powers and the Dire Monstrous Wolf.   The Apex predator here is the aptly named Crystal crocodile who lurks in the waters of Charon waiting to ambush any unsuspecting prey. The creature is named for its crystal like plate armour which can be used to either blind, hypnotise or just confuse pray for the reptile to attack. The armour is also nigh imprentable .
