Bloodroots Tree

Bloodroot trees were originally trees that grew from the stake left in the heart of a vampire. Once nothing more than a tree with extraordinary properties should one consume the fruit or have part of the bark implanted in them, consistent magical exposure and a few thousand years to evolve has given the tree a will of its own ... and it's a little bit hungry.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Bloodroot tree look like dying trees, with twisted, spindly gray branches that often hang low over the surrounding area.

Genetics and Reproduction

New Bloodroot trees can sprout from the bodies left behind when a tree consumes a victim.

Ecology and Habitats

A Bloodroot tree could survive anywhere provided they have a corpse to grow in.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Bloodroot trees survive on blood. Their ideal feeding habits consist of grappling a victim and slowly pulling it below the earth, to feed on its' blood slowly and allowing it to have a longer food source. Victims of the tree are kept alive with the bitter sap the tree produces.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

While people are not sure officially how these trees can sense their surroundings, they appear to have blindsight in a large radius around their trunk.
Victims of these trees are not typically able to be saved, even if one is able to destroy the tree, dig up the surrounding roots, and find a still living soul. Prolonged exposure to the sap of the tree corrupts the person, rendering them unable to survive without that continued food source. Attempts to keep a person alive by providing them with sources of Bloodroot sap have not gone well either (see: massacre of 5289 in Myth i-Delim).
Conservation Status
This species is actively being hunted; proof of a slain Bloodroot tree, however you can manage it, will garner you some kind of payment or favor should you make it back to a Bloodhunters Guild.
