Darion Keep

The fog had become a constant for generations in Darion Keep. Every morning it rose from the deep chasm below, crept into the small village and finally dissipated by noon. In these hours of the morning, the view from the top of the highest hills onto Darion Keep was one to behold, especially when the early morning light bathed the streets into a rich blue.

Geography

Darion Keep is the name of the chasm, which is located in the middle of a tundra-like steppe surrounded by hills. While these Eastern Hills are covered in grassland, the immediate surrounding of Darion Keep is barren rock. The seemingly bottomless abyss is incredibly difficult to climb and even more difficult to mine, but it can be done.

Fauna & Flora

Mainly grassland and some wild deer. From now and then, a wolf can be encountered a fair amount of distance from Darion Keep. In terms of domestication, the preferred animal seems to be sheep and rye the preferred crop for growth. The main danger are the wolves, which go after sheep, if they can't find deer. During the spring and summer, deer can be hunted for food, but during winter that is no longer possible. It is also the period, where wolf attacks are the highest.

Natural Resources

There are some trees, but most wood has to be imported from the more forested areas further south. Sheep deliver wool, milk and meat; and rye can be farmed from the fields. All the metal, including iron and silver, is mined from the Darion Abyss. An extremely dangerous job. Stones are also acquired from there, but can also be gained from quarries found in the hills.
