Rimestones

Rimestones are similar in shape to sleet, but are much larger- almost a hand in diameter when they fall from the sky. Once a rimestone hits the earth, it will either vaporize into gas or stick to the cold ground and begin forming. Formed rimestones grow in a structure similar to crystals- reaching up to five arms high and one arm wide. Rimestones form faster near other rimestones, and they release a fog of freezing cold gas when a heat source is brought near them; this gas is a component alongside water vapor in the fogs of the Mists. Rimestones can also form on the ground without falling from the sky during the coldest, driest period of the Rimes- right before the Mists.

Localization

Rimestones fall and form more frequently and strongly near volcanoes, and only during the Rimes (hence the name for the season).
