Well, I finally found out would happen if I were to take off my ring. I also found out how useless I’ve become without my magic. With just a glance from that beholder, there was absolutely nothing I could do to protect my friends… to protect Cormag. It’s a miracle any of us made it out alive. I don’t know what I was thinking going into that lair in the first place. That’s not true, I suppose. I let my arrogance get the best of me, and Cormag is the one who suffered because of it. That’s why I need that soul shard, especially after the vision I had. I don’t buy for one second that Cormag has gone to a better place after seeing all of those lost souls. Maybe he no longer belongs on our plane of existence, but he certainly does not belong in that purgatory.

Now that we have a relatively safe place to camp and have made it to the tomb we originally intended to travel to, I hope that I can convince Gwenda that we must try everything we can to protect his soul- at the very least until we can figure out what’s going on in the Afterworld. This may be a long shot, but maybe these people making their religious pilgrimage will have some insight, especially since it appears they have some practice cleansing and preserving souls. They may even help us unlock the mystery of the Northmen’s tainted blood. To be revisited soon.
