Session 71

We were discussing what method we could use to make Cormag’s sacrifices more convenient and less morally distressing when we heard screams. I have never seen and turned into so many creatures out of thin air more than I had in the following hour: Cormag turned into an eagle, Rainier hopped on, and they looked up into the sky to see the Red Rage. Stellar. This thing was MASSIVE and was circling above Cair Callidyr. Then, Cormag turned into a whale. And Rainier helped him fly. And we all stupidly climbed aboard to get closer to the MASSIVE DRAGON. I thank Torm we’re still alive: the nightmare spat a fireball down at the city and pierced through the magic barrier that the queen placed. The fireball was no joke, so the whale (aka all of us) got scorched, we stopped flying, and thankfully Rainier had a spell that helped us float to the ground. Since we couldn’t well fight this thing, we decided to run to the queen to see if she was ok and maybe help protect her, and also maybe deliver the “bomb”. Oh, did I say run? Nope, we were flying again. (sigh) Cormag summoned some pixies (sidenote: wow they’re real!) who turned us into crows and then we flew to the queen. The dragon released three fireballs while circling above the city, then flew eastward to the sea. Reallllly hoping what Ruven was talking about might help us fight Big Red back. We arrived at the castle district, and Arya (for reasons I am not yet mentally equipped to question) knew the way to the queen’s quarters. She wasn’t there. I cast Sending and checked in on her. The queen didn’t reveal her location. She said not to worry about her (which is a classic phrase that people who are really hurt say), that the barrier has maintained, and that she wanted us to talk to Altic or Mother Iris to drop off the thing we wanted to give her..   So we ran to Mother Iris. Finally, with feet this time. Mother Iris seemed to be holding back about the Queen’s location, but she did kinda save our lives twice, so I’ll let this slide for now. We gave her the “bomb” to hand off to the Queen.   We then headed to the challas with the intent to guard it from The Clave and probably the Northmen, but we stumbled upon two people fighting: one grappling another that was invisible. After prying the two apart, the cloaked figure with a dagger turned out to be Ally, and the person she was grappling was some Joe Schmoe who dug their own hole into the cavern.   After the altercation, we continued on our way to find the challas, but Ally went to talk to Mother Iris, not inviting us Wolfbreakers into the conversation. A little weird… That’s three suspicious moments from my allies in one day for those keeping score at home. Feeling great about my life choices. No, four: of course Cormag went to try and steal the dang thing for himself. Anyway, we had to check on the challas and on Altik.   Arya casted a spell to locate the challas, so we went to seek it out. One of the rooms we had to go through to get there is the old burial chamber for previous abbesses. Just in case of any future shenanigans, I’ll note here that there were seven caskets set vertically into the wall, one with its front panel gone and the skeleton showing with its hands posed in front of it. The door to the east was opened.   Then we encountered Altik! He was running around in here, too. Doesn’t seem to be an expert about this place, setting off an alchemist fire trap. Which, hey, at least we know there are traps down here now. Why, though?
