Tengu

when the man of the south and the man of the north discovered this land, they found it mostly uninhabited, so they decided to create their races, the two races were very different, but they decided to give them the same name, Tengu. there were two types of Tengues
Katai Tengu: the Katai are just slightly taller than Chisai, but twice as wide.
they like to live underground, as they have an obsession with metal. to find metal Katai have developed large noses which give them a very adept sense of smell.
but what do the Katai use this metal for? usually, they make weapons, some of the most powerful mortal-made weapons are made by Katai, but the Katai don't like people touching their stuff, especially if its made out of metal, so you'll probably have to kill the weapon's creator to get to use it, which is difficult since (as you can guess from their wide frame) Katai can take a hit. the Katai are pretty anti-social, they just want to be alone with their metal craftsmanship, which leads to many being pretty grumpy when they're out and about in the sunlight. Katai doesn't speak often, but when they do they dominate conversations with their booming voice.
But what about Katai that don't like making weapons? well most of them still like the wield weapons made by relatives, or have some sort of metal trinket on their person at all times. metal soothes the Katai, no one knows why, but it makes them easier to deal with so no one cares to ask.
It's hard to do with their anti-social nature, but a friendship with a Katai lasts a lifetime.

Kouteki Tengu: the Kouteki Tengu are very different from their anti-social cousins, for one, their usually a bit taller and much slimmer, another thing is they're typically way friendlier and hospitable, this is because back in the early days of Borohiem the Kouteki functioned on teamwork, everyone would help each other, from helping to build a house to give a hand with dinner, they were taught to be nice to survive. even though they don't function like that anymore, their ancestors still forced their good manners onto them.
there are some traits the Kouteki share with the Katai, their passion for craftsmanship, the Kouteki are natural-born inventors, and they love to tinker with little bits and bobs. thanks to their craftsmanship, things like guns, explosives, water wheels, and windmills were invented.
because of their world-changing inventions and hospitality, they are very respected around most parts of Borohiem. Kouteki originated and tend to live in Buriku since they can't handle the cold weather of Valjord, and that because they don't have hair, instead they've evolved to have feathers, which give them the ability to glide for short periods of time.   although mostly different, the two Tengu have some simliarites.
New borns of both races are created by carving out a peice of the land (for Kouteki its wood, for Katai its stone), and are brought to life when touched by a peice of the sky (for Kouteki its rain, for Katai its snow), the way the two races differ is how the new borns are raised. for Kouteki their creator typically teaches them, but Katai new borns are put into a school where they are taught everything they need to know to go out and work. this type of teaching isn't always the case but its what typically happens.   both Katai and Kouteki live to around 350 years old, but they mature at the same time as humans.
