Valdova is a lush, green continent that enjoys a temperate climate. It is governed by royal lines who trace their origin back to the time they overthrew their Draconic Tyrants.
Inspiration
Valdova features romanticized ideals of feudal knights and nobles protecting the people, akin to Heroic Arthurian fantasy yet with gender and sexual equality in all aspects of life. It's technology is akin to that of Europe in the (Early) high middle ages. The eldest child (regardless of gender) inherits the family's legacy, as a result other children will need to find their own path in life or be contend with aiding their eldest brothers or sisters. While many wed others of opposite sex in order to continue their bloodline, there are few if any that look down upon same sex or inter ancestry relationships.
Historia Draconis
The most legendary figure to roam these lands was the Great Wyrm Kalaetherix the Shadow Tyrant. She and her brood ruled over Valdova after eliminating his Dragon competitors and taking their hoards for himself. Her oppressed subjects lived as fearful prey, in squalor and poverty while the Dragons and their servants ruled in splendor and luxery. Their Draconic Greed knew no bounds and infighting among them children was common. Their internal strife and continuous conquest proved their eventual undoing.
Once dragons lorded over these lands as Tyrants, having carved out a grand Empire of their own. However the Gladiator Marcus "Wyrmbane" Utharic I arose out of the Great Arena and led his fellow slaves to glory, freedom and conquest. With the mighty sword Calabrun he slew the first Dragon and established his own realm. Decades of blood, sweat and tears led to the unification of the many races against their oppressors and with it the Draconic Empire came toppling down and the different provinces given back to its people.
Dragonfall Concord
The name of the old alliance formed between the cultures that banded together under the Wyrmbane King. After the fall of the dragons it became the name of the shared laws, regulations and trade-agreements written up between their kingdoms. As part of this arrangement all races were allowed into the different kingdoms. However it was also agreed upon that certain areas could be made off-limits to those without the agreement of the local rules in order to preserve ancient culture. Interestingly enough the elven-folk were one of the big proponents for this concord and to this day the concord has preserved peace between the major political leaders.
Deific Impact
Spiritually every individual, commoner, spellcaster, noble or otherwise pays tribute to nearly the entire pantheon during their lifetime, with many families having a patron God who they pay particular tribute to. Churches and their priests however are usually dedicated specifically to the will of a single diety. The people believe that they can only reach an afterlife by living in concord with the will of their patron diety.
Monks are found among the clergy, as part of abbeys they brew, write, copy and study many writings as part of religious life.
Culture
The Culture of Valdova is deeply rooted in divine rituals and superstitions that date back to before the Gods retreated behind the Worldveil. All folks devote themselves to the common pantheon, praying to the deity whose aid they need in the moment. Valdovans are shaped by centuries of warfare and only in the last age has it had the chance to experience peace after the fall of the Dragons.
Valdovan culture combines customs and traditions intermixed from multiple ancestries most notably Dwarves, Elves and Halflings.
