Zargov, God of Death

Overview

Zargov is the malevolent god of Death and Decay. It is he who rules the Dead and steals souls away from their journey towards their true destination, damning them within a realm of ice and misery. As the reaper of all life he takes great joy in cutting the life strings of mortals and feeding upon the fear it wroughts. Not contend to sit by and await natural death, he unleashes winter, creates famines, spreads plagues and develops new poisons for mortals to kill one another with. He gifted necromancy upon the mortal races, allowing them to trap a person's souls to their corpse and animate it as undying servants. Sometimes these souls fragment, allowing him to reap a portion of that soul for himself, stealing it from the other Gods. He grants mortals power and knowledge collected from the fallen, allowing them to live a life as immortal undeath, by feeding on that of others. Those that earn his ire find themselves struck sickened and die a slow and agonizing death.   He is depicted as a gaunt, pale king dressed in black and blue regal robes and silver embroidery. His long black hair is swept back and held by a crown of ice. From his waist dangle chained lamps holding the screaming faces of those damned by undeath. One hand holds an icy dagger while the other clutches an Onyx staff.

Followers

All loathe and fear him, few dare worship him or utter his name. However those able to overcome their fear find themselves armed with knowledge of death, learn how to postpone their demise and hasten the end of others. Many are fueled by their own hatred and misfortune and seek to master their own ailments in order to spread it towards their enemies. Others however are assassins that study the various ways one can kill, poison or scar their prey for life. He is favored among necromancers and those enthralled by entropy and the macabre. Certain sects of his faith aim to live an eternal life as a powerful undead servant of his, yet few manage to unlock the secrets. The more neutral followers urge all, particularly those of ailing body in in lands of winter to offer sacrifices in blood so that he may spare them from his gaze. His followers are those fearful of death, living in wintery lands, but also sadists, necromancers, assassins, poisoners, scholars, murderers and intelligent undead cursed to subside on flesh and soul of the living.   Favored Weapon: Dagger   Alignment anathema: Good

Temples

His faith is largely outlawed and as such he has few places of open worship. As such his cultists are forced to congregate in hidden shrines near catacombs, graveyards or elsewhere. Lands where his faith is practiced openly construct large necropolises in his name. These grand structures of the dead and the necrotic contain the masters of death and poison.
