Loxodon

Note: This species is based on the D&D 5e species of the same name.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Loxodons appear to be a cross between an elephant and a human. They have the large ears of an elephant (ear size varies between individuals), a prehensile trunk, and most have a pair of tusks (tusk length varies between individuals). Their skin is thick and leathery, similar to an elephant. They are bipedal and stand on feet very similar to an elephant's with a singular, large, oval-shaped pad on each foot. Their hands function like a human hand with an opposable thumb; but instead of five digits, loxodons have four thick digits. They also have a long, thin tail with a tuft of hair at the end. The rest of their body contains very little hair.

Growth Rate & Stages

Loxodons reach physically mature around 20, but are not considered adults until 60. They live about 450 years.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

"Like that of an elephant, a loxodon's trunk is a useful appendage. In addition to providing a keen sense of smell, the trunk can be used to lift and carry even heavy objects. The trunk can be used to carry both food and liquid to the mouth and can even act as a snorkel." (From D&D 5e source book: Guildmasters' Guide to Ravinica)
