Adrian is an Old World scientist turned Librarian, very much the more laid back foil to Horus' more academic demeanor.
At the end of society immediately following the eruption of Yellowstone, the facility Adrian worked for selected a small handful of scientists, researchers, and security detail, and had them cryogenically frozen. They were then placed in what were called "Rebirth Pods", small one man orbital vessels designed to orbit the Earth while maintaining cryogenic stasis, waiting for a signal to reenter the atmosphere.
The plan was to help repopulate the planet after the effects of the eruption and plague ended, but with nobody surviving to activate the signal, the pods remained in orbit.
Adrian's pod experienced orbital decay and eventually crashed down to Earth in The West, he was recovered by Kyler and Syneth, and lead to the Immortal Library to recover his health, and eventually joined their ranks as an expert in Old World technology.
