Ancient Archetypes

After the the giants had defeated the dragons and started to settle the land, they found their new life was difficult as they had no idea what they were doing and weren't well-equipped. Many people trie different strategies, but there were ten successes that everyone drew from.   Gus the farmer found a way to make a sustainable source of food. He found that hooked tools were useful to work the land and harvest the crops. Gus made the first sickle Willow the logger found a way to make quick homes from the trees all around. She found that long, round blades were the easiest to break wood with. Willow made the first axe. Andre the crafter found a way to shape resources to make complex tools. He found that a blunt tool was good for both shaping the resources and combining them in a way that wouldn't come loose. Andre made the first hammer. Steve the miner found new resources from the rocks. He found that the easiest way to find these resources was to wedge the rocks open after striking to the center. Steve made the first pick. Ramona the guard found that just because the dragons were gone, that didn't mean that everyone was safe. She found that a sheet of metal was useful to cover vulnerable areas. Ramona made the first shield. Dismas the thief found that with a little persuasion, people would be willing to give up their food. He found that threatening worked best with a simple straight blade. Dismas made the first dagger. Artemis found that her people couldn't survive on eating plants alone. She found that killing animals worked best when they couldn't sense her, which was hard up close. Artemis made the first bow. Marion the adventurer found her calling in finding new and interesting things. She found that previous tools worked well as weapons, but having a string-like tool helped her grab distant things. Marion made the first whip. Leigh the trainer found peace along with strength through practicing martial arts. Mostly she would fight unarmed, but when she needed a weapon, she found that a straight rod would make a powerful hit without breaking skin. Leigh made the first staff. Minerva the mage found she could use magical abilities. She found that she could bring energy out from her body but would be stronger if she could channel it. Minerva made the first wand.   These tools and weapons inspired by these tools were embraced by all and can be seen in iconography to present times. Some notable inspirations are swords, made from lengthening the dagger; magic staves, made from combining the staff with the wand; spears, made from combining the staff with the dagger; scythes, made from combining the staff with the sickle; glaives, made from combining the staff with the axe; maces, made from combining the staff with the hammer; halberds, made from combining the staff, the dagger, the axe, and the hammer; lances, made from sharpening the staff; flails, made from combining the hammer and the whip; nets, made from intertwining the whips; crossbows, made from mechanizing the bow; and fans, made from combining the shield and the dagger.
