Sanguinis Malediceret
"To make you a vampire they have to suck your blood. And then you have to suck their blood. It's like a whole big sucking thing." ~ Buffy
Six dreams for the red queen under her crown of glass,Sanguinis Malediceret, otherwise known commonly as Vampirism is an affliction that affects any living humanoid creatures, the affliction causes Anemia; This means that the body is consuming a significantly larger amount of iron to sustain itself and because of it, the best thing for the afflicted to do is to drink the blood of other beings to sustain its normal bodily functions. This consumption of blood does have its benefits however with major regeneration being a common effect of Sanguinis Malediceret with cases also showing some mutations like invisibility, shapeshifting, levitation and in rarer cases telekinesis and more.
Eight veins punctured from the belly of the earth,
Five voracious beasts born from five restless nights,
Three watchers bent on the hunting trails,
Four nails piercing the flesh of the sinner,
One prayer for the summoned called by this song,
For children born in its light must hunt the evil of night.
Transmission & Vectors
Transmitted through "feeding" via the neck or by drinking the blood of a fully transformed vampire.
Causes
If the infected does not receive immediate treatment by nightfall the affliction begins its cycle of transformation.
Symptoms
pale skin, lengthened canine teeth, glowing eyes in the pitch of darkness, aversion and allergy to silver, discomfort in direct sunlight, appetite for blood.
Treatment
Treatment can be given within 72 hours of transmission, by casting a spell or drinking a potion that removes a disease the affliction is purged from the body. If the target is charmed while undergoing transformation only a Greater Restoration spell can be cast, purging the body of the affliction and charm. Once the afflicted has transformed there is no cure.
Prognosis
Unless charmed by another vampire, the afflicted falls into a coma-like state for the next 72 hours upon waking up, they will feel delirious, confused and starving until it confronts a humanoid creature at which point it will "feed" off of them until the creature has died due to immense blood-loss. Once done they will re-gain a sense of their surroundings and regain awareness, becoming a vampire. This effect still occurs while an afflicted is charmed as the vampiric magic of a fully developed vampire keeps the afflicted from falling into a coma. If the charm is removed the afflicted falls into or back into their coma.
Hosts & Carriers
All Humanoids can be afflicted with Sanguinis Malediceret.
Prevention
Garlic, White Roses, Silver and Quartz is said to deter vampires from you as each item debilitates vampires when either in view, scent or contact.
Cultural Reception
Afflicted or Vampires, are shunned, hunted and executed in most civilised areas of Batruus, some, however, are able to hide their affliction due to mutations and illusion magic. These afflicted usually survive by feeding off of animals or relying on high-iron foods such as spinach. While the act of feeding is seen as necessary to commonfolk it is factually false as the only benefit to a vampire to feed off of a humanoid is a pleasure. - Vampirology: The Study of Vampires and the Undead.
