Laridae Mons

On the northern edge of the Zapno Mountains there is a section known as Laridae Mons. Here the seas meets the foot of the Zapno Mountains on both sides. The only way foreword through this section is to make the parlous journey through the Laridea Mons themselves. The Laridae Mons are a lawless wasteland which only the gull raiders tribes call home. The gull raiders live and die by their noble mounts, the sea-gryphons, which they use for travel, to catch fish in the surrounding seas, and to strike out to raid the surrounding kingdoms. The gull raiders are pragmatists, who prefer to travel light and have a single tool for all their needs. Because of this the gull raider's weapon of choice is the trident, which they use for both combat and to catch fish when flying over the sea on the back of their sea-gryphons. The gull raider tribes have no central authority, and a deal made with one group of gull raiders for save passage is no guarantee that the next group will grant a traveller the same.

History

For centuries kingdoms from both the north and the south have tried to invade the Laridae Mons in an attempt to subdue the gull raiders. But each time they were taken down through a combination of the land's poor supply and guerrilla tactics. A sudden landslide crushing several regiments, a surprise charge of gull raiders pushing an officer and his soldiers into the abyss, a poisoned freshwater spring, these are all tactics the gull raiders have used to defend their homeland against invaders. The closest anyone has ever come to conquering the Laridae Mons was Count Al' Gebra from Cainaan. Making use of an endless swarm of bats, the Count was able to flush several gull raider tribes out of their mountain homes. It was only because of the brave charge of the young tribal chief Guus Vazant, who pierced Count Al' Gebra with his trident, that Laridae Mons remained unconquered.
