Bergmijt
Deep inside of the heart of the mountains an infestation can be found. An infestation of bulbous arachnid creatures known as bergmijts. These creatures make their nests inside of the sprawling cave networks inside of mountain ranges. The most dangerous part of a bergmijt infestation is that it is nearly impossible to recognise a nest from the outside. Only once you are in the very heart of the nest do you start to notice the black eggs covering the cave ceiling, and the pattering of hundreds of legs stampeding from every direction.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Bergmijts are arachnid creatures of around 180 centimetres tall. They have soft light grey oval bodies that lean backward. Attached to these light grey bodies are eight legs covered in chitin and two mandibles in the front pointed downward. These mandibles are hollow and all the bergmijt to drain the bodily fluids of its victims.
Genetics and Reproduction
The females lay their eggs in clusers in the very heart of the nest. The eggs are left alone by the rest of the nest until they hatch. For the first three weeks after they hatch the adult bergmijts will bring the hatchlings creatures around the cave system to feed on.
Additional Information
Uses, Products & Exploitation
Most people see bergmijts as dangerous pests, but there are those who have found a use for them. Alchemists collect the Thermoplasts of bergmijts to create a special potion that grants the consumer the ability to see the heat signatures of living creatures.
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
Bermijts have 4 eyes, two of which are usually covered by skin in adult bergmijts and two of which are only able to recognise different hues of light. Instead bergmijts perceive the world around them through a combination of highly sensitive hairs on their legs that can feel changes in the air and an organ able to perceive heat signatures called the Thermoplast.
