Goliath

Were it not for the Shix, stories about the Goliaths of the Thovkhal Highlands would be what parents use to frighten their children. They tower over the other races just as their homeland towers over the rest of Bastion.

Origins

The Crusade of Light was a vicious war. Alverion, in his infinite wisdom, allowed his people the opportunity to earn glory in his name through battle. None can claim they earned greater glory than the sky tribes. Living atop the world they endured a harsh land and harsh climate. This made them strong. To survive meant near constant battle amongst themselves for resources. This made them dangerous. When Alverion called the people to fight humanity's greatest enemy, the sky tribes exalted at the opportunity to fight a worthy foe.
Don't be daft, son. Your head is thick enough there ought to be a brain in there, so use it. You think that old codger Irongrip was spinnin' you a yarn to scare you? First, pay attention, boy; Irongrip is so stern he tells his wife the truth when she asks if he thinks she's pretty. He's never told a tale in his life. Second, the yetis are real. You think our ancestors would have wasted time carving that statue by the gate if they weren't? Plenty of real monsters in the deep stone, no need to dream them up. And Third--now listen boy, this is the important bit--if there were any part of what Irongrip said that should make your beard twitch, it's realzin' that there's a whole kingdom of people up there who think a yeti is just a fun diversion from a lonely stroll.
— Dwarven father
The greatest of these mountain warriors was Krathag Stormeye, chieftain of clan Noka-Kukena. Despite his hatred for the vile Shix, Alverion almost pitied them as he watched Stormeye tear through their ranks in battle after battle. As recognition for Stormeye's exceptional talent for slaughter, Alverion granted him the title of Exarch. When the Crusade of Light ended, Alverion granted Krathag domain over all of the Thovkhal Highlands, but that seemed unworthy of his triumphs. To truly reward the sky tribes, the Divine One remade them into a people as colossal and strong as their homeland.
